Haha, thanks Shroob. I shall try that.

Speaking of Axel, I found his boss battle annoyingly easy. :tssk:

Yeah I remember messing Axel up a lot when I was little - kept missing the final Lum and sliding back; but when I tried it when I was a little older, I beat him in like twenty seconds...

Thanks for the images and the suggestion, Henchman800. I have been looking on the Wiki, also because I like reading up about stuff in the other versions of Ray2 I don't know. However, I was wondering if someone had a really detailed picture, high resolution, or just up close or something - generally something I could draw off. It doesn't have to be really nice or beautiful, but that is preferred of course. ;)

EDIT:
Actually, the artwork of the shell is really detailed when it comes to the shell itself. Thanks, that helps a lot.

There are too many differences to list. You will have to play it if you wish to know what they are.

By the way - while I was just working on the upcoming Rayman 2 soundtrack for RayTunes (almost done - it will be up in less than a week, probably), I decided to extract the sound files as well to get some of the jingles (+ Globox's rain dance song, the little dance at the end of each level, and the "alternate ending") that aren't stored as music but as sound effects.
I have all (or most of them, because some files were "corrupt") the sounds in the PC version now, and I uploaded them here for you:
http://www.mediafire.com/?ocama5b1pd3p2q2
It's an interesting listen, especially the Raymanian sounds. It's a great way to feel all nostalgic again.
Also, two fun facts:
In the sound effects filenames, normal caterpillars are actually named "chenille" too (due to that being the French name), and the "yeah!" sound from the super lums is actually Rayman's pitched up a bit.
Enjoy ;)

Oh that is excellent! I was actually wondering the other day if anyone would have the sound effects etc. ! You're a saviour... ;)
Now, I see my 'picture request' hasn't gotten very far, except for the helpful Shell pic... anyway, it doesn't really matter - that was just because I wanted to draw them all. However, I now have a little more serious request: does anyone know where to get the 3D object files from Rayman 2 (PC)? Or does anyone know how to extract them from the game? When I request it like this it does actually sound a little bit illegal...

Anyway, can anybody help?

EDIT:
PS
I would also like to know if anyone's got the textures from Rayman 2; walls, sky, water, skins etc. Does anyone have these or know where to find them?

It reminds me, Droolie can you rip the sound effects and voices of Rayman Revolution aswell? I would love to be able to have the voices of that version. The PS1 too aswell.

Does anyone know what program Eric Chevalier used to make the music, or what synthesizer/keyboard he had? Some say the music was made with an ochestra, and while I believed that at first too, there's a couple of things that tell me the music wasn't 'real':
-sythesizer effects in the final cutscene of the game
-the instruments produce the exact same sound every time they play - you can hear this especially with the gong and the cymbals. No musician, no matter how good, can make an instrument produce the exact same waves, length and pitch of sound over and over.
-some parts are ridiculously hard to play; now this doesn't prove anything, but it supports my belief.

Are there any audio-wizzes out there who happen to recognise the instruments from the game's music as "created by that specific keyboard"? Is there anyone who knows which musical libraries closely mimic the instruments and do they have an example of them?

Heh, it seems like I'm asking for a lot of resources here, doesn't it... well I am trying to use a lot of resources and just thought there's no harm asking if anyone can help me out.
That brings me to my other questions:
Does anyone have an answer as to how I can obtain the Rayman 2 source stuff? How can I take/edit things like objects and textures used in-game? Is there a way to access the files that come with the game disc, but are Ubisoft-program written and normally only accessible by the game?

@Haruka: I'll try to rip the voices from Rayman Revolution and PSX, but no promises here, because it seems to be heavily compressed too ;)
@ Shrooblord: Of course it's synth music.
Eric Chevalier's latest site is still quite empty (from 2010, he stopped working on it): http://word.ericchevalier.com/
But on Eric Chevalier's old Flash site, it states different synths/keyboards he might have used:
  • Sony DMX-R100
  • Yamaha 01V
  • Akaï S 600 X2 / CD 3000 XL
  • Roland SP 760 X4 / SP 700
  • Roland JD800 / JD990 / MKS80 +PG / MKS70 x2 +PG / XV 3080
  • D550 / A80
  • EMU Proteus 2000
  • Yamaha TX 802
  • Kurzweil MicroPiano
  • Korg EX M1R / WS AD / TRITON
  • Alesis DM5
  • Access Virus A + Virus C
  • Theremin
  • Nord Lead
  • Minimoog Voyager
He uses the following real instruments:
  • Piano - Yamaha C6
  • Organ - Hammond B3+Leslie 122
  • Rhodes 73 Suitcase
He also uses the following VSTi's (instrument plugins as you probably know):
  • Spectrasonics (didn't say which products)
  • Native Instruments (didn't say which products, again)
  • And more (he didn't specify further)
Good luck figuring out which ones he actually used for Rayman 2, haha :P
(but don't forget to tell me here because I'm interested too)

As for your other questions:
Textures are compressed within the *.cnt files. They can be decompressed with a program like MultiEx Commander or Game Extractor. You'll get a lot of *.gf files then, which are the textures. As far as I know, it's not even worth it to try to decrypt them: the files don't work correctly as even normal PCM wave files that are compressed in Rayman Arena's CNTs won't play. So, you can't edit anything unless you have Cheat Engine and you modify the memory. You can rip and/or replace the textures from the N64 version though, using the Glide64 plugin in Project64 (or you can download my rip of the textures from that version here). No one has any idea for how to extract the 3D models, but you can do that with 3D Ripper DX if you play through the game.

Phew! I think I replied to everything. That was... a lot.

I could be very, very wrong since I've never had the chance to use any of them, but I can imagine the orchestral parts of the soundtrack being done with some of the Native Instruments products 'cause I recall there being some sets for cinematic type music... Not sure about all the other synths etc though.

Wow, thanks for all the really good replies, everyone. To tell you the truth, I hadn't actually really expected anyone would be able to help me - but it seems there's some people that are really deep into it!

DrolPiraat, hang on, nobody knows how to take the objects, but it can be done with the 3D Ripper DX? I'm a little confused; what does the Ripper do? Does it take images of the 3D object, or does it take the actual object?

Well, I hadn't ever expected this to be easy - after all, it's not mine, and it's protected, and I can see why - to stop people like me from doing what I'm trying to do! :P
But in all honesty I'm not trying to do anyone any harm, unlike... other... people who might use these same resources.

Wow, that's a lot of instruments to figure out... So the first set of stuff is the actual keyboards and synthesizers, which means that I'd have to find one or find some sample sounds of them to see if they contain any of the instruments he used... tedious, although I'd rather believe he used only one, since all, and I really mean all Rayman 2 music used the same instruments. There's only one song I can think of that used an instrument that wasn't used for any of the other songs, and that's the Crow's Nest theme, for it had an electric guitar which wasn't used anywhere else.

Anyway, enough gabble. Thank you very much, this completely narrows down all the possibilites in the world to a relative small amount of possibilities. Also, I did actually find out the organ-like sound was a Hammond myself. Funny to see that on the list as it confirms my suspicion! :)
Ah, yes, the virtual instruments, I had already noted them in his music. For anyone interested, listen carefully to the ending to the Crow's Nest cinematic - the one after you beat the final boss. You will hear some effects there. Also, try listening to a Henchman Theme (doesn't matter which); you will hear a small beeping noise, as one example of virtual instrument - however, there are many more and far better examples out there.

And of course I will tell you what it is after I've found it out - I love this community mainly for its nice people, but also for its many resources, and it is only fair to contribute to those resources after taking so many with me myself.

Hmm... the textures problem sounds like a bit of a bummer. I could really use the original textures either as inspiration or for use... anyway, you seem to have ripped some from the ORIGINAL original game - as I recall the N64 version came before the PC one, right? Tell me one thing, are they really low in quality, are they okay, or are they really good quality but have they been modified by the N64 so it could handle it better? I know that in Rayman 2 for the PC, the textures are a reaaaally good quality, but that that only comes out when you 'resolution hack' your game (try the RayWiki and search for that, folks - it will blow your mind how beautiful the game is with it - especially for its time).

Alright, and I've said this many times before already, but really:
Thanks a lot!

EDIT:
PS
Whoops I guess I went on a writing rampage there... sorry for the large post if that disturbes anyone.

EDITII:
Okay I really should have done this before replying, but I guess I was a little bit too exited. I read that the 3D Ripper will be able to export stuff to 3DS Max and Maya, but is it also capable of exporting stuff to other 3D programs?

EDITIII:
Okay sorry, last edit - just tried the 3D Ripper; it doesn't seem to want to run my Rayman 2 game. So I guess I won't be using that ripper then...

Droolie, great thanks for SFX. Now I have a good SMS signal.

By the way, did Yamaha produce "real" pianos, or am I getting definition of real piano wrong?

Yes, they have produced real pianos and keyboards.

On side-note, I just got my first Sega Dreamcast two days ago. I have A/V gear for recording and I think I'm gonna do some let's play of some games, including Rayman 2. Most of them will be blind, since I have never owned a dreamcast before.
Any reccomendations on games I should do LP's of?

Alright, how would I go about using the Cheat Engine to do this then? I have a friend who's familiar with the engine, so he might be able to help me if you show us the first steps. I've been trying to find ways to actually get either the 3D Ripper to work, or find ways to decrypt the .gf, despite your warnings (I really want them). It's a bit of a bummer though that the 3D Ripper won't work on Rayman 2 on my PC, while it does work on games like Rayman M. I use an XP computer, maybe that's why?

EDIT:
By the way, has anyone noticed Lunette really looks a lot like the stone-throwing rockmen from Rayman 1 in the Blue Mountains?

@Haruka: I think it may be randomized, but as far as I know Precipice's bonus level is about 50 seconds long if you have quite fast fingers.

Also I've been lately interested in Rayman merchandise, such as the figures
And just thought of something that would be too awesome to handle - a Walking Shell Chair-thingy.
