I'm satisfied with my score of ~620k I got when I was like 10 or 11, though at some point in time I'll probably revisit it and try and land in the 800k range.
I might just take whatever I can get for now like it's only 170k at the moment because I was just playing through it so clearly that's quite easy to improve as it's extremely terrible. 2 levels would beat that whole score if done right.

I honestly didn't even know about the matuvus until I seen a thread on this having already completed the game

Edit: Played through TFC again and got 15000. Wow I'm bad. I'll leave that level and go back to it but I literally tried my best to get as many combos as I could and still only got 15000. I might aswell keep playing 3 to try get higher scores because I'm waiting on the others in the post and it's March and this is Ireland (aka spring) which means um...

Snow...

Lovely weather

So yeah... let's play Rayman 3 :D

I have to say fair play to all the people who got really high scores in this game. I'm after being playing it for hours today and the best I could manage was 26000 on The Fairy Council, 49000 on Clearleaf Forest, 41000 on The Big of Murk and 53000 on The Land of the Livid Dead.

As terrible as them scores are it matches what my score was on the PS2 after completing the whole game so at least they're getting slightly better. This is on PC replaying the story but I will be improving them again once I complete the story. It's actually a LOT harder than I thought it would be to keep combos going and get good scores. Literally fair play to all the people that put that much dedication into the game to actually do it because it's far from easy.

Here are some pretty basic tips to help you out.

1. Watch walkthrough videos (look up Haruka Tavares on YouTube) to help you find all of the secrets and cages. This is a good start.

2. Always if possible, have a Laser-Washing Powder power-up on while you are collecting gems.

3. Combo as many items as possible before collecting the green gem. Don't collect more than 15 with a power-up, because the green gem won't count.

And of course, go to the Rayman 3 scores topic to try out the more advanced combos posted there.

Those tips should help you out considerably. :)

Thanks @Ray502

I was looking at some video yesterday on a part of TFG where they were they were able to kill the hoodlum with 2 curved shots, take the vortex look up and take the matuvu in combo for 500. Then they were able to hit the 2 screws with the vortex collect the 4 yellow gems then jump to like a ceiling grill and keep the combo collecting the 3 on the grill in it before dropping to another gem to finish the combo. No matter how much I tried I could only get the first ceiling grill gem and couldn't the second one in time in combo no matter what. Maybe I just need more practice as timing seems to need to be literally perfected.

I'll have a look at the thread you linked me to and videos on there. I might just rush through to the end of the game on PC to unlock all the levels first.

Yes, a lot of a practice and restarting the level is what you will experience as you attempt to do the more advanced combos. Even some of the easier combos, because mental mistakes.

No problem, thanks for the tips. Better for it to be challenging than extremely easy otherwise you'd be bored of it after a couple hours. It has good replay value.

Yeah, that's one of the reasons why I like Rayman 3 over Rayman 2. Rayman 3 has a lot more replay value than Rayman 2, mainly because of the scoring system. There's always room for improvement for scoring in R3. :)

I'll probably play and complete each of the versions of Rayman 2 we talked about still, but yeah Rayman 3 has really good replay value because of the scores. Reminds me of when me and my nephew used to keep playing Incredibles Rise Of the Underminer because we were trying to get better scores. Even though it was really short and we played the same story over and over, it remained interesting due to the scoring system. They don't make games for replay value anymore like they used to because a lot of people just play online. That and they Probably assume "well if we make this game too good we can't make the next one better and nobody will buy it." Back before around 2008 or so all the games used to have great replay value because not as many people played online until then.

80s/90s games were literally an hour long and people still payed full price and completed them about 1000 times. Streets of Rage is an example of a very repayable but short game.

Still in progress of completing Rayman 3 on PC then I'll really try to get better scores on levels. I have all weekend before I have a chance of getting my other Rayman games I ordered anyway.

Yeah I use either my Xbox 360 or Xbox one controller on it when I'm playing it. I prefer to use controllers and sit back and use the TV to play a game.

Oh good. I was just asking because using a keyboard to keep the extended combos going is almost impossible. I also have the PC version, and let's just say I was much less than stellar in scoring.

Yeah I think the left analog stick is a big advantage in Rayman vs just 8 directions you can walk on a keyboard. I'm still wondering if I'd rather the PC or PS2 version apart from how obviously the PC version looks much better. It doesn't run any better since my PC has something against the game despite being ridiculously overpowered for it. It's playable on either platform is the important thing.

I haven't tried the original Xbox version yet but heard the gamecube doesn't let you restart levels you're already playing and the c stick can't be inverted to use the camera the way I prefer it. I don't even want to bother with the HD version either as I heard the scores aren't the same in it.

If I remember correctly, certain glitches in the Xbox version allow the player to score even higher. I think it's the super jump glitches. And I don't believe the Black Lums glitch (bonus points for using grimace) works on the PC version.

Whichever I play I basically just want the scores to be legit is all so people know I'm not using glitches as an advantage. I tried TFC again and seen a triple matuvu combo. I literally can't even manage to collect gems and get a single matuvu in time never mind 3 so still only have 26000. I did manage to get the matuvu in combo in part 1 of The Land of the Livid Dead so had 10000 at the plum but then I screwed up at the green gem and didn't have a combo collecting it.

As practice I kept trying to get the matuvu on part 2 of TFC in combo by going up the lift and running around the edge collecting the gems and trying to finish the combo by getting the matuvu before it ends but no matter what it ends a fraction of a second too early so I have no idea how I could stand any chance of getting all 3 in a combo. I'm probably just awful at it but it feels like it's impossible to get the matuvu that fast. Videos make it look easy. I literally try replicate that and the combo ends far too early. Suppose that's what not playing the game until 15 years later than everyone else does to you

I recommend going to the Land of the Livid Dead, Hoodlum Headquarters and the Tower of the Leptys before starting on the Fairy Council. Easier high scoring opportunities. In fact, save the Fairy Council for last. The matuvus are quite the pain to combo in that level.

Thanks Ray. I'm actually trying out the TLOLD and I managed to get the hang of the first part and get the matuvu in the combo totalling just short of 10000 but then I completely mess up the next part and end up with 20000 at the end of the level (first part). Messing up at the green gem is what's really getting me as I can't manage to collect 10 yellow gems and the green one without the combo stopping. I'll get there hopefully :)
