So ... a little update about the Rayman 1 sounds.
I got the Proteus/1 + Orchestral today and yes, there are a few sounds that were used in the soundtrack of Rayman 1. Like a few of the orchestral sounds and the jazz sounds. I also believe there's that weird space sound thingy used in Space Momma's battle track.

I also found this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BcqLVI0NPUo Check out the percussion instruments at the end. Those were definitely used in the Candy Castle's upbeat song. These "sound expanders" were also released in JV expansion card form. (SR-JV series)

I know, I've already asked him. He doesn't remember, which is understandable after more than 20 years :P

I'm also beginning to believe that the snare drum used in Rayman 1's soundtrack, you know, the super tight one, is a highly polished (compressed ... EQd ... added nice reverb) version of the Roland R8's snare (or maybe the SC-55).. it has kind of the same character and transient.. I have to do a little more research on this one.

The Roland R8 has expansions, so it could be one of those: http://www.cellsonik.co.uk/roland-r8-sound-cards

Hello I am very impressed with all the work and findings on this thread and I would also like to make music similar to the rayman games, but one thing that has been really giving me an itch in the soundtrack of Rayman 2 this past year is that hip hop beep sound on 'The Woods of Light', its 30 seconds in the song and I'm dying to know where that sound came from, I'm pretty sure its from a sample pack but I'm not sure if its from Zero-G or Best Service. I'm just very curious of where its from, and I'm glad that this community is also fond of the creation/instruments of the Rayman Soundtracks

Hi, i am new of this website and i am interested by this subject. I am very fan of distorted reality libraries by Spectrasonics and sounds too... i have an question for the Rayman 2 song 'The Prison Ship' 0:31sec. Have you an idea of sound at 0:03 up to 0:06sec? -----> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GVLYxpBbvrs he is not in distorted reality libraries, I have always believed that he was in distorted reality librairies or trancefansion in electronic sound... and is very cool sound. So in which libraries it can be? and is too in metal prog band Threshold on the album 'Critical Mass' in (2002) good year for samples :) listen to the intro 0:12 -----> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p7DiCTe73ug

Cheers and happy new year.

Fabien.

I think this is the one. I've recorded it 3 times: stereo/mono/mono with reverb.

Man, this thread is such pure gold. Can we please make sure to archive, double archive, triple archive this somehow? I'd hate to lose all this fantastic information somehow.

25th Anniversary Collection - EW Percussive Adventures 1
Used in Rayman 2 (and maybe 3?)

I believe "East West Phat and Phunky" has the drumloop of the Rayman 2 Final Boss theme: http://www.soundsonline.com/25th-Anniversary-Collection

EW Dance Industrial has a few drumloops from the Pirates' Theme if you listen closely

It seems more likely that the Marimba sound used in Rayman 2 comes from the Roland - Africa CD1 for the Roland s700 series.

Also, check this out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z0qesnKw0Us

I finally got the Akai S1000 Factory Sound Libraries and I found this:
http://www.mediafire.com/file/6rp8pqnoq ... +SD04S.wav

After a bit of EQing and added reverb it ended up sounding like this:
http://www.mediafire.com/file/a4b8bpl9e ... +Snare.wav

What do you think? Jackpot??? Did I finally find the Rayman 1 Snare?

Update: I did a little test: I lined the snare up with a snare from the OST's tracks and they flanged/phased (Idk what to call this), which happens when you line up the same piece of audio and slightly tune it out of tune (a few cents) or slightly place it out of time (a millisecond or something). I'd say there's an 80% chance that this is the snare used throughout the Rayman 1 soundtrack.

Password = rayman

I've made an 8-minute recording playing with my DBX compressor + Allen & Heath mixer + PCM70 Reverb. Just cut out the snare you like the most in your audio-editing software. I also recommend using a nice low-pass filter to get a sound that is closer to the snare used on the Blue Mountains music.

Nice bit of digging there!
But please don't double post so much. You can use the edit button if you have something to add.
