That actually sucks especially for French speaking Rayman fans.

PCSX ReARMed is open source while epsxe is closed source. I'm not sure if there'll be anything special about it, especially compared to an ordinary Pi.

Well, while the system itself is not likely going to be anything special (for reasons mentioned above), I guess we should be glad enough that Rayman 1 is on it and will thus bring recognition to a wonderful series to those guys (who never heard of Rayman) who do go the extra mile and get the PS1 Classic. :hap:

I honestly think the majority of people who are going to buy the PS1 Classic will have already been PS1 fans about 2 decades ago. With a price tag of €99 and that game library it has, I think mainly only die hard fans will even reach for their wallets. (speaking of die hard, where is Die Hard?)

Emulation aside, I think there's only about 4 or 5 games I'd like there personally. Rayman (obviously), Grand Theft Auto, Destruction Derby and Syphon Filter mainly. There probably are a couple of others I'd like if I played them but like, where is Spyro!? Where is Crash!? Where is Gran Turismo!? And where the hell is Tomb Raider!?

Come on Sony like... Really!?

I'm over the moon that Rayman is on it but it's also missing some amazing PS1 titles and I only mentioned a couple.

I would love if the younger generation bought into it and discovered Rayman, but for the reasons mentioned above I just don't see it. Even if someone did play Rayman 1 now for the first time, they'll likely give up on it claiming that it's too hard compared to us from 2 decades back :P

Holy crap, sounds like a good deal to me! $100 for a device that grabs money for you? It pays for itself!

This is sad to here as I thought this would use something like the old PS1 software or just do something like SNES classic. Matter of fact I wouldn't buy it as I could already buy Rayman 1 for the PS2. I just think that people who have PS2's could just grab the PS1 game and get it. So in other words, you are either buying it so you can have it, or so you can make it a collector's item, or you actually want the PS1 itself. People can make their choices, it's just dumb if you're only doing it so you can have it. To be honest, I am running out of Christmas ideas, but this isn't one of them. :noelfou: Happy Holidays!

If only it could do what you said and grab the money for us, instead of grabbing ours and giving it to Sony! :P

Exactly! I just imported the NTSC (US) copy of Rayman 1 and it arrived today. Now when the NTSC PS2 motherboard gets here, I'll basically have a US PS2 that work in my country without exploding when I plug it in. :P

Still much cheaper than buying an emulator that I can already play for free. It's more of a collectors item/ornament really, exactly what you just said.

Well I did always play the PAL version as a kid, but then after playing Origins and deciding to revisit Rayman 1 for nostalgia a while back, it was just so slow to me.

I know Rayman 1 is slower paced than Origins, especially the speed you fall at (gravity), but the PAL version just feels way too slow to me now. I played the NTSC version and I really much prefer the faster gameplay.

Yeah we talked about this before, but I'd prefer any game at 60Hz that never had it's engine optimised for the PAL version.

I'm not sure how how that yeah thing happened or if its a coincidence, but the fact that the game is slower in PAL just like a lot of games including Sonic on Mega Drive, it shows that it wasn't properly optimised for PAL, hence the slower gameplay, which by the way I might add is by about 17%. That is a huge difference!

They seem to have made the PAL version of Rayman have a taller view port, which they did with a lot of games. The majority of games didn't do that, meaning you ended up with 48 line tall black borders to make up the extra resolution (240p vs 288p). This resulted in a squashed looking game.

It's just not for me though, it feels too slow. Even the PC version was always 60Hz.

I agree with you on the "yeah" thing, you can even see that the time counts in real seconds on the NTSC version where it's slow on PAL, so it's interesting that "yeah" is perfectly in sync on the PAL version while being too fast on the NTSC version.

It could be just preference though since you're so used to the PAL version. If you play a game the same way for so many years then I guess you're not going to like having that changed.

I think we were really fucked over with the whole 50Hz thing back before the Dreamcast and PS2 came out, it was around the time those consoles were released that most games finally started to run at the correct speed on PAL systems. Before that, it was all slowed down games with a squashed aspect ratio. Games that were designed in 4:3 were practically just short of being 16:9 on our TV's, due to them squashing 720x480 into a 720x576 resolution and just filling the extra parts of the screen with black borders. Then there's also the 10fps slowdown or about 17% speed difference.

Even Ps2 has Pal problems

most games run 25 fps instend of 30
or 55 instend of 60

you know, i just wish that they let yoju choose what you want to play on , PAL or NTSC

Yeah but most of them are still the right speed if you get me. Like for example, Rayman Revolution is 25fps on PAL consoles, but it still runs at the same speed as its 30fps NTSC counterpart, despite the difference in the framerate.

Some games allowed you to choose between 50Hz or 60Hz, which was the right thing to do in my opinion. Most of the games that gave you those 2 choices were slower when played at 50Hz, but at least they gave you the option to play at 60Hz. Every game should have done this in my opinion and then there would never have been any problem. If someone had a TV that couldn't do 60Hz, then they could still choose 50Hz and play, everyone would be happy enough then.

It's bad enough that we did have a lot of 25fps games vs the NTSC 30fps versions, but it's far worse that a lot of them actually had slower gameplay too.
