Re: Rayman Origins

Post by Steo »

So it seems that proton 4.11-4 fixes the majority of long sprites in Rayman Origins. I was playing about and noticed the newer proton version, then I realised that D9vk wasn't actually active after I played the game for a bit and checked protontricks.

When it comes to proprietary NVIDIA drivers, the latest proton seems to work better than using any other method as of yet, as I tested it with my Nvidia laptop too. The 2 most recent versions of proton won't launch Rayman Origins using D9vk, but it's almost unnecessary to use at this stage. It still works slightly better on mesa with D9vk and an older proton version, but it's marginal.

The trails leading to the cages no longer even have any issues at all, but the air currents on the Desert of Dijiridoos are missing parts of their blue trails is all. They're still visible, as you can see the leaves and white streaks, so the game isn't too far from being perfect out of the box on Linux now. :D

It makes me wonder if the reports myself and others shared on protondb were actually acknowledged, as I reported it to work with D9vk and then seen many other reports saying the same thing. It's great that they're actually making these improvements.

Hooray! :D Maybe I'll stop using nouveau altogether now...

OK, I've installed the Steam version now and I can confirm it's working for me too. :D

At first, I thought D9VK was loaded on my PC with the AMD card, even though it said it wasn't, so I had to check it on the laptop to be sure. The fact that it also works for you confirms it now though. :D

Proton is clearly coming along nicely. Admittedly, I thought they broke something in 4.11-3 when Origins no longer booted with D9VK, but I guess this is the reason why.

EDIT: Actually, D9VK still works if you just set your steam launch options for Origins to "PROTON_USE_D9VK=1 %command%" instead of using protontricks.

Does anyone here own Rayman Jungle Run on Windows 8? I've been trying to get the 20 added levels to work on Windows 10.

Is some of Bubble Dreamer's dialogue missing on certain versions of the game? I've been checking some stuff on RayWiki and I noticed that there are extra lines from Bubble Dreamer that aren't actually in my game on PC.

EDIT: Part of the dialogue for Rayman spells "Well" as "welll", so I changed it to say that on the article too.

I think the extended dialogue is from the localization file, so it's in fact unused in the game.

In some cases there were spelling mistakes like that which got fixed in later releases (PS4/Xbox One) and/or Rayman Adventures. Not sure about this specific one though, but it's worth keeping in mind.

I checked on both Xbox and PC before doing so. I wasn't sure if it was a spelling mistake or if it's just done to make it seem like he's dragging out the word for longer.

It's great that Globox actually does that in the UbiArt games.

Re: Rayman Origins

I found an unused script for the origin cutscenes in the Vita version:

Rayman

Code: Select all

They say Rayman was once as bald as a full moon on Rayday.
And Raynette loved him that way.
Meanwhile, the Mini-Villi set out in search of their promised land.
After centuries of wandering, desperate and delirious...
They came upon a snoozing couple...
A glorious sun rose over a land of perfect proportions...
‘Eureka!' said the mini-villus mini-king upon discovering Ray's shiny egg-head...
‘Home at last!!' cried the Mini-Villi, who threw down their bags and took root right then and there.
The Mini-Villi threw down their bags and took root then and there.
‘Eeek!' shrieked Raynette at the unsightly ‘do...
‘Ahhhh!' screamed Ray at the mini-invasion...
‘Ahhhh!' screamed Ray at the mini-invasion...
Running Rayman right over a cliff.
To his doom.
Or not. ‘Phew!', sighed Ray.
‘Your welcome!' replied the Mini-Villi, as Rayman glided into the sunset with Glade's best head of hair.
Globox

Code: Select all

One day, the ever-insatiable young Globox was stuffing himself silly with the delectable fruit of the blubue buberruby bubush.
Little did he know that his buffet was home to a venomous blubue bubeastubie...
... and the bubeastubie wasn't giving up its eye without a fight!
Finally, greedy Globox just went ahead and popped the whole bubeastubie down his gullet.
As he soon discovered, blubue bubeastubies tend to travel in swarms...
Singularly savage swarms, at that.
The blubue bubeastubie's buddies finally cornered the Shubamuban and really let him have it.
Poor Globox stumbled home covered in nasty bubeastubie buboils.
The buboils healed, but the damage was done. The bubeastubie venom had turned young Globox a permanent shade of blue, and the magic peoples learned a valuable lesson:  Always beat a buberruby bubush before stuffing ones belly...

This is interesting tbh, shows how much they actually scrapped from the game.

Wait, so is Shubamuban the name of Globox's species? :o Then the comment about Polokus' laughter cited at https://raymanpc.com/wiki/en/Shubamuban gels perfectly with what it says about the humour involved in his creation of Globox, in the Rayman 2 Knowledge of the World!

Could be the red wizards too since Globox wasn't originally blue and they fit with the rhythm theme. Or maybe just the whole species too. Hard to say.

its def a rather weird and silly species name but ill take it over it just being. the same as the character as some stuff seems to imply
i think its more of a title of sorts rather than a species name though

I've never heard the name "Raynette" before, that's an amazing find. So, according to this text, Rayman was bald, but he got his hair thanks to some little people that thought his head was the perfect land to settle in?

This should have been incorporated to Rayman Mini somehow, since it is more interesting (a funny part of Rayman's past is revealed, Raynette makes her official debut and a new type of creatures is introduced).

We already seen the bald Rayman story about the hair creatures in the cutscene on Vita after completing the mosiac puzzles, but nobody buys that story because it's complete nonsense.

yea im willing to accept one of these as canon but not the raymans hair not being natural thing
i guess partly because the fact that globox used to be red is actually mentioned more often and theres an alt of that too. meanwhile rayman wig is only in the relics to my knowledge? and thats in only one version of the game too lmao. also because its dumb
did any of that even make sense

I didn't know about that, my bad. When it comes to Rayman, I am ok with things making little sense as long as they are entertaining, interesting and/or have some continuity. Besides there are many things in the main games that make no sense, so I'm not very nitpicky about something like this.
