Rayman 1 OST Remaster Mod

Hello there! I am TAIVAS or Jere, I am a self-taught composer and audio designer from Finland.

In late september of 2025 I started to recreate the Rayman 1 soundtrack, just as a fun personal project. It was purely for a learning composition as I love the OST and wanted to see what made it tick, what makes it work. My goal was to recreate the tracks so that they'd have a similar feeling to those from the "Rayman by Rémi" project and use some of the original samples from the original game. To keep the original feel of the tracks and only breathing fresh life into the sounds, not the entire composition. I worked on it for about 2 months or so and got all the way to the end of Band Land. I guess it was motivation and personal things that kind of pulled me away from it.

But now with the release of the 30th Anniversary Edition, and I guess the community's distress about the OST by Mr. Héral (no hate on him, I personally love Origins and Legends OSTs), I've gotten motivated to do more of it. So I thought maybe the community would like a mod with music I've attemped to recreate.

Here's an example (more tracks on my channel):

So now I am asking the Rayman Community if I should go forward with this project, for feedback on polishing and overall if this is worth doing! I have no idea on how to mod the game, so I'd need someone to do that for me. I can handle the music :)

And I'd be very appreciative if there are people who have discovered samples used in the Rayman 1 OST, I'd be very glad if you could share them.

Just listened to the example you gave, and it sounds great! Good luck with the rest of the OST, seems like a huge undertaking to try doing it all by yourself.

Just listened to every track on the channel, and they are very faithful to the original, only with a more "modern" instrumentation. I would love to play the 30th Anniversary Edition with this soundtrack.

Thanks for listening, and I'm glad you liked it! I'd love to make this project into a reality, so I'll most likely update on my decision on this project before the end of the month. This won't be a quick project, especially with this being a side-project of sorts (I have school things, work things and the usual), but I am confident on my ability to recreate this OST, no matter how long it'll take!

Let's get it!

Nice! How long did it take you to create the existing tracks already?

Around two months I think? So if we did the math, it would take about 4-ish months more to roughly do rest of it. Though I'd say it would maybe take like 6-8 months, probably :oops2:

I'm kind of unsure on how to do the Bongo Bridge and Band Awakens as it heavily relies of timbre and notes of the percussion, but I'm sure I'll manage. Also, some of the horn stuff in Band Land sounds kind of rough at the moment. So if I could find the original samples, it would be great! But I do know a trumpet player IRL so I could maybe get something outta him.

I think it's fine if you have to make some tracks a bit more different from the original. What really matters is that you stick to its spirit!

! UPDATE ! UPDATE ! UPDATE !

We have reached the end of March, and I have come to the conclusion that I will go full on this project. It still being a side project of course doesn't put this as my main priority but I'm doing it - Recreating the entire Rayman 1 OST by myself, though it's more of a "modernisation" of the OST (as Hunchman put it :D ).

Here's a treat for ya while waiting on the next update:

I have been able to aquire two, actually trained, musicians to record some instrumentation later on (Trumpet and Guitar), and they will be credited on the tracks they have contributed to. Though I am still in need of someone to mod this OST remake/remaster into the game. Be it the original release (PC most likely), Redemption or the 30th Anniversary Edition which ever would be easiest to mod. So if you have any experience with modding the soundtrack in any of those games or you're up to giving it a shot, please hit me up!!!

From this day onwards I'll be dropping monthly updates on this project. One, to keep everyone interested up to date with the remaking of the OST and two, just to keep myself in line and giving myself an obligation of sorts to not drop this project. I am hoping to get it done by the end of the year, but I'd say it's more about quality on this project and not speed.

Probably by next update (late April probably) I will start to upload the tracks as they get finished or just an entire world in smaller batches, we shall see.

I'll update the progress reports on the first post on this forum:

Stay tuned!

Thank you! All feedback means a ton (Good or bad)!

Glad to know I'm on the right track, so to speak, with the soundtrack :)

! UPDATE ! UPDATE ! UPDATE !

Looks like another month has gone by and it's my time to update you people on my progress. (track progression is visible at the top post)

Last month I spent polishing, mixing and doing instrument changes where it was needed. These finishing touches were mostly on The Dream Forest tracks so I'll be uploading those onto my YT channel in the coming weeks or something as some Bandland tracks are not yet finished and a big pause in anything from me to the community would not sit right with me.

Also, I tackled the rest of Blue Mountains with "Peaceful Peaks" giving me most of the trouble as I just couldn't get the right "Psychedelic-mountain-rock-with-some-90s-techno-elements" sound, though now it finally sounds something I can be happy with :). Otherwise those tracks are pretty much done except for the guitar recordings for: "Call of the Mountain" and "King of the Mountain" (Mr. Stone track).

Also also, my good friend was able to records trumpet tracks for Harmony ( it sounds pretty nice :D ) and he is currently working on the rest of the Band Land tracks. My next stop will be Picture City!

Here's the first bit of the finished product (Stay tuned for more!):

As no-one has reached out to me about modding the project, though there is still time for someone to step it, I have been thinking about modding it in by myself. People have made mods for Rayman 1, though mostly for the PS1 and I was thinking of modding the PC version so we'll see...

Either way, if it doesn't get modded in, there will still be a finished REMADE SOUNDTRACK for all of you by the end of this. Most of the worlds after Band Land don't have that many tracks, three at max, so that should speed things up quite a bit. I'll be quite busy during May due to school and work, but I'll still work on this whenever I can.

See you at the end of May!

Glad to hear you've been making good progress! I like the final touch for First Steps.

As for modding the game, I mentioned your project here when the subject came up, but I didn't get any replies either. Don't hesitate to bring it up again, just in case somebody else is willing to offer some insights on how to approach the problem. :)

Oh that's so nice of you! I really appreciate the actual support you've been giving during this project, shows that people actually care about this! Imma also pop in on that post. Thanks!

UPDATE! UPDATE! UPDATE!

Hello, hello! Looks like it is time for another update!

As I stated in the previous update, during May, I've been quite busy with work and school, working from Monday to Friday and selection tests for universities and stuff. This has hindered my pace a bit, but that is to be expected, though my motivation hasn't lowered by any means. I'll be still working through the summer, but I think I may have a bit more time to spend on this in the coming months.

Here's the most recent upload from my YT:

I was able to do all of the tracks in Picture City to a point where all they really need is just a little bit of polishing and I was able to start outlining a few tracks from The Caves of Skops! Progress is good!

I also added the "Ambient Tracks" section to my progress post, I'm still kind of unsure if I'll remake them. Since I think they just fit the vibes of the game so wellI wouldn't dare go touch 'em, but we'll see... Another new thing one could find in the progress post is that I added the "Suspense" track to Blue Mountains, the one where you're cutting the ropes. I decided to make that a bit more different than just removing the water sounds and keeping it just the same, though it's still pretty much the same track I made it a slight bit more different.

During summer, I'll be most likely getting some of those guitar recordings out of my friend for the tracks which I feel like I couldn't do justice to with my own playing. The trumpet audios are still work in progress, but thus far we have a finished Harmony and Blazing Brass.

When it comes to modding, I have yet to look into it myself, but with the post that Hunchman informed me about (Big thanks to Hunch! viewtopic.php?p=1554527#p1554527), I might use that method, if nothing else comes along my way. I have yet to try it out, but this could be the way to get the music into the game...

And lastly, I've been uploading the finished tracks onto my youtube channel with non-strict schedule, just so I feel like I'm making some progress and those that care have someting new to listen to...

Currently my favourite track is Mr. Stone's track, that thing slaps! But you'll guys have to wait a little longer.

See you at the end of June with another updateeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!
