Hi there! Please re-upload your image of the spring maracas after reading our image policy on screenshots from Rayman 1. If your image is from the PlayStation version, the resolution should be 320 × 240 after resizing to 50% using a nearest-neighbor algorithm.

Also note the image policy on file names: "Screenshot 2026-02-27 221645.png" is not as self-explanatory as "Spring maracas.png", for example.

:: Thanks for looking into it! Unfortunately, your image is still very blurry, as if you resized it using a smooth interpolation algorithm instead of nearest-neighbor, as necessary here. This topic explains the problem in more detail. To summarize, you need to play the game at native resolution (no emulator window resizing), and then resize it to 50% using a nearest-neighbor algorithm. — 09:41, 1 March 2026 (UTC)

::: Heya, idk if this will solve it, but I can probably try to use the Switch version of the PlayStation 1 title instead of playing the original game on DuckStation (I think it's because I have the window expanded that it gets weird, so might try without doing that), maybe? Big thanks for checking in and will take a look at the topic. --RaypersonNikol (talk) 03:36, 6 March 2026 (UTC)

:::: I'd say just use Duckstation without expanding the window (if you did, there must be an easy way of resetting the size) and resize the screenshot to 50% using nearest-neighbor. I'm not sure what kind of rescaling the 30th Anniversary Edition uses so I don't know if that would work. — 07:49, 6 March 2026 (UTC)

:::: You might want to try using the following settings in DuckStation:
::::* Graphics
::::** Internal Resolution: 1x Native
::::** Texture Filtering: Nearest Neighbor
::::** Sprite Texture Filtering: Nearest Neighbor
Bad Rayman, also known as Dark Rayman, is an enemy who appears in the original Rayman game, its Game Boy Color remake, Maths and English with Rayman, Rayman Designer and French with Rayman.

Description
Bad Rayman is a clone of Rayman, magically created by Mr Dark in an attempt to destroy the original.

His appearance is very similar to that of Rayman, but with different colouration. He seems to have somehow inherited Mr Dark's glowing yellow eyes. In the original Rayman game, Bad Rayman's skin is grey, his hair and neckerchief are pink, his gloves are light blue, and his shirt and shoes are dark blue. He also has a green tongue, which can be noticed by having him make a grimace in Maths and English with Rayman or Rayman Designer.

Appearances
Rayman
Bad Rayman first appears at a very late point in all versions of the original Rayman game except for the Atari Jaguar version, when the real Rayman finally reaches the second part of Mr Dark's Dare in Candy Château, and has a spell cast upon him by Mr Dark. The evil double appears behind him, and follows him wherever he goes as well as copying his actions. Rayman cannot stand still for too long at this point, because he and the double will die instantly if they come to close contact with each other. However, Bad Rayman will die as soon as the real Rayman reaches the exit in the area.

Bad Rayman, who is not named in the original versions of the game, but only in the manual for Maths and English with Rayman, in Rayman Designer and in the achievements for Rayman Classic, is also called Dark Rayman in Rayman Advance and Rayman for the Nintendo DSi, which has fueled numerous debates on his real name, and the nature of the relationship between him and the many other identically named characters.
In the PlayStation version of the game, Bad Rayman can throw his fist while copying Rayman's actions. Unlike Bad Rayman's body, the fist is not recoloured, but instead looks exactly like Rayman's did when it was thrown, reflecting Golden Fist and/or Speed Fist power-ups. This copy of the fist should also have appeared in the PC version, but due to a programming error, it remains inactive and invisible.

Unlike Bad Rayman himself, his fist is harmless to Rayman, as it passes right through him. However, it was intended during the game's development to kill Rayman if it came into contact with him. It is unknown whether this behaviour was intentionally disabled for gameplay reasons, or just never fully implemented due to lack of time or other technical issues.

In Maths and English with Rayman and the other games in this educational series, Bad Rayman appears in the penultimate level, Tasty chase, which takes place in Candy Château. However, he does not chase Rayman during the whole level, but only makes short appearances and disappears after a certain distance.

Bad Rayman is named in the manual, and in-game, Betilla the fairy refers to him as Rayman's "wicked double".

Rayman Designer
In Rayman Designer, Bad Rayman appears as an enemy event and can be added to the maps in Candy Château. He will disappear if Rayman comes into contact with an anti-spell amulet.
French with Rayman
In French with Rayman and the other games in this educational series, Bad Rayman appears in the level Food and Drinks of Candy Château. Like in Maths and English with Rayman, he only makes short appearances and disappears after a certain distance.

Bad Rayman also makes appearances in the Game Boy Color version of Rayman, in which he appears in a slightly different colour scheme; his shoes and gloves are yellow, and his skin is darker than Rayman's. He is found towards the end of the game, in the Arcane Forest. Bad Rayman behaves in the same way as he did in the original game - chasing, copying, and causing death upon touch. But he doesn't die if he manages to kill Rayman, apart if the hero falls into a chasm.

When Rayman reaches the exit in the area, Bad Rayman doesn't disappear, unlike in the original game. And as he is never seen again in the game, his fate remains unknown.

It is possible to kill Bad Rayman in this game, by flying above a specific floor of red spikes.

In a screenshot from the manual showing an early version of the game, Bad Rayman is shown to originally have been of a different color.
Similarities include glowing yellow eyes, purple hair, blue shoes and blue clothing.
Dark Rayman is an enemy who appears in Rayman Legends.

Description
Dark Rayman is a clone of Rayman, magically created to destroy the original.

His appearance is very similar to that of Rayman, but with different colouration. He is almost completely dark with a purple aura emanating from his body. He also has glowing yellow eyes. At certain points, Dark Rayman's crazy evil laughter can be heard, revealing a high pitched, echoed version of Rayman's voice. This laughter, along with other variable noises, can be heard at the beginning of the challenge or when Rayman is defeated.

Dark Rayman is an allusion to Bad Rayman, an evil clone of Rayman created by Mr Dark which appear in the original game. But unlike Bad Rayman, the creator of Dark Rayman is unknown. Maybe it is the Dark Teensies, the antagonists of Rayman Legends, who are admirers of Mr Dark, or maybe he returned as a nightmare of Polokus, but nothing permits to prove it.

Role in the games
Dark Rayman appears in the last Invasion levels of Rayman Legends, in which Rayman, in addition to having to reach a group of Teensies before a certain amount of time while defeating enemies from another world and avoiding obstacles, must also avoid contact with Dark Rayman, who follows him and repeats his moves until he touches and kills the real Rayman. This makes these levels some of the most challenging in the game.
*If the player uses the Murfy reset glitch, a glitch occurs in which the heroes become invincible to Dark Rayman.
*Shadow Ray, a character that looks identical to Dark Rayman save the for the missing purple halo, is playable in Rayman Adventures and Rayman Mini.
Rayman Arena is the American release of Rayman M, released in 2002 for the PC, PlayStation 2, GameCube, and Xbox. The title was altered to avoid misconceptions about the game being related to the ESRB's ‘M for Mature’ rating.

PlayStation 2, PC
Rayman M

The PlayStation 2 and PC versions of the game very closely mimic their overseas counterparts. Most changes were for localization, such as changing any ‘Rayman M’ logos into ‘Rayman Arena’. The only other major change difference lies in the addition of the LAN mode to the PC version. The map for the race tracks in the bottom-right of the screen is no longer shown by default and, as in Rayman Rush, Ice Bullets have now been added to the Race mode and Lum Race. In the PC version, the menu navigation has been slightly changed and the save system has been changed to avoid any save file corruption. Some levels have minor changes made to them.

Xbox, GameCube
The Xbox and GameCube had never received a port of Rayman M (due to the consoles having not been released at the time of Rayman Ms release), so the designers made several changes before releasing the Rayman M ports (many pertaining to Battle mode).

Modifications
This is a list of notable modifications to the Xbox and GameCube ports, among others.

*A new intro video was used.
*The menus had undergone major changes in navigation and aesthetically.
*‘Cups’ replaced the prior ‘Leagues’ and setup in the single-player mode was changed.
*Murfy is seen as a reporter/paparazzo before the start of each cup in a brief comical video.
*Lock-on has been added for less-experienced players in Battle mode.
*Hearts are now used in Battle mode to recognize health (instead of hit points), and one heart can be regained by killing an opponent.
*A player is given 6 possible hearts, with 5 filled when a player respawns. (The 6th is left open in case of a kill without the loss of any hearts.)
*There is a visible timer in Battle mode.
*There are three modes, which reflect the difficulty of the game: Beginner, Pro and Master
*Master Mode features only Dark Rayman as an opponent (albeit his AI is much improved from other characters), is played in black-and-white, as well as using cel-shaded graphics.
*There are more playable characters, including Dark Globox and Dark Rayman.
*Popolopoï mode has been removed.
*Training mode has been removed.
*On and On has been removed.
*Capture the Fly has been removed.
*Big Bang has been removed.
*Lums have been removed.
*The small animations that characters do upon finishing a race have been replaced with the character entering a Spiral Door.
*Added Time Attack
*Added Run, Run
This article is about a modified version of a previously-released game. For more information, see Rayman M.
