The Photographer, also known as Clown Photographer, is a character who appears in several games in the Rayman series, most notably Rayman and Rayman Origins. Though his exact purpose varies from game to game, he can usually be found standing near a photoboard, waiting to photograph Rayman and his friends.

Appearance
In the original Rayman and English with Rayman, the Photographer wears a chequered trench coat and blue shoes, and has a satchel slung over his shoulder. His face is never seen, but one of his eyes is visible through his long blonde hair. In Rayman Junior, the Photographer's appearance is slightly different: he wears a brown coat instead of a green and red chequered one.

In Rayman Origins, the Photographer's appearance changes significantly. His face is finally visible, and like several other returning characters, he has been changed to a Teensie to better fit the style of Rayman 2 and Rayman 3. He is somewhat different from the other Teensies, with a thinner body, slightly darker skin, large, cartoonish hands, and a purple outfit with a feathered hat. As in the original game, he wears large blue shoes and has a prominent eye.

The photoboards
Through the games, the Photographer has a tendency to change the photoboards that he uses to take pictures of Rayman. In Rayman, the photoboard has a picture of a bodybuilder's body, standing on a beach and holding what appears to be a surfboard and a pair of swimming goggles. In Rayman Junior, the photoboard has a body wearing a graduation gown, holding colourful letters and numbers. In English with Rayman, the photoboard has a picture of a star sparkled blue cloak holding an ice cream cone and a hamburger.

In Rayman Origins, the photoboard has spaces for two characters. The positions which the players take indicate who has collected the most Lums in a level. The new photoboard shows a large armoured woman with a sword, and a skinny, loincloth-clad figure wielding an axe. The player with the most Lums stands behind the picture of the woman, the player with the second-most Lums stands behind the picture of the other figure, and the two players with the least Lums are left to peek out from behind the photoboard to get their picture taken.

Role in the games
In Rayman, Rayman Junior and English with Rayman, the Photographer serves as a checkpoint. He takes a picture when Rayman stands behind the photoboard and smiles. If Rayman dies and has any lives remaining, he returns to the last place where the Photographer took his picture. In Rayman 2, he was replaced by the Green Lum checkpoints.

In Rayman Origins, the photoboard takes on a more significant role than the Photographer himself. It appears whenever the heroes break the last Electoon cage of a level; then they smile and pose for a picture. The photoboard is no longer a checkpoint, but an end-of-level point, much like an exit sign or a Spiral Door. Earlier in the development of the game, the Photographer was intended to appear and take the heroes' picture, but the developers chose to replace him with the Magician and his test tube (which he uses to collect and count Lums). It is not clear who actually takes the photographs in the final game, but it may be that the photographer is still present but simply standing off-screen, perhaps serving as the camera of the game itself (much like the Lakitu Bros in Super Mario 64). Despite the Photographer's absence from the final version of the game, artwork depicting him can still be seen on the official website.
The Nymphs are a group of beautiful fairies who appear in the Rayman series. They make their most prominent appearance in Rayman Origins. The Head Nymph, Betilla, also appears in the original Rayman; the other nymphs are her younger sisters. The first trailer for Rayman Origins shows a flashback in which Betilla is levitating in a stone circle in the Primordial Forest, a location from the original game. With her hands she gathers rays of moonlight and weaves them into a glowing orb, which solidifies to form Rayman – this is the origin hinted at in Rayman 2. Rayman was created by the Nymphs to preserve the equilibrium of the universe from the nightmares of Polokus.
This is where Rayman rescues Carmen the Whale from the Robo-Pirates who planned to use her blubber for fuel. ==Original version==
Whale Bay is the first level in the game to feature Barrel Pirates--however, fighting these powerful enemies is avoidable.

The first half of Whale Bay takes place in the Whale Bay Fortress, with Rayman attempting to locate the prison where Carmen the Whale is being held. In some versions of the game, one area in particular has respawning Robo-Pirates, making for some interesting challenges.
Rayman must first go through an aquarium right next to the magic door and come out at the other side to activate a switch opening the door at the side. Rayman comes out to a netted room. He can collect the red and yellow lums by avoiding the Pirahnas. Outside, Rayman will encounter a purple Henchman 800. After defeating him, Rayman will climb a barrel and a net to reach the other barrel and shoot a switch on the opposite wall to open the electric door. Inside the door, rolling kegs will try to harm him. Rayman must avoid them, while collecting the lums overhead. Outside the room, Rayman will encounter a chasing purple Henchman 800. When the pirate is dead, the player can take a keg from the room at the right and use it to break the sparadrap holding a cage containing a purple lum. After that, Rayman enters the passage to end the first half.

The second half of Whale Bay revolves around the lake itself, and Rayman's attempts to free Carmen the Whale. After Carmen is freed, Rayman must follow Carmen into the extensive underwater cave network of Whale Bay, using Carmen's bubbles for air (considering the piranhas don't reach them first). Carmen leads Rayman to a secret grotto, where the remains of a submarine mark the way for escape. In most versions of Rayman 2, the level closes with Rayman exiting a beached ship, sliding down a watery slope, and evading an Ape Pirate.
In the PS version of Rayman 2, Whale Bay follows the Bayou level instead of the Canopy. The level is notably more difficult than in any other version, requiring the player to battle many camouflaged Barrel Pirates where in other versions the player would have just had to journey through respawning pirates and not have to fight any Barrel Pirates.
Carmen's journey is also majorly different, to a story-changing degree. Instead of taking Rayman to a grounded ship, she takes him to the Sanctuary of Water and Ice. The sanctuary is intact and features a mixed environment of water and ice, though it is slightly more predominant on the water side. It is much more like the later sanctuaries in either version.

As such, the boss of Whale Bay in the PS version is Axel, the Guardian of the Sanctuary of Water and Ice. Whale Bay's rendition is also unique in that it is the only appearance of Axel's to have dialogue.
It follows the Canopy in all versions of the game but the PlayStation adaptation, in which it follows the Bayou, and the GBC adaptation, in which it is set directly after the Marshes of Awakening. This is where Rayman rescues Carmen the Whale from the Robo-Pirates who planned to use her blubber for fuel. She then takes him to a grounded ship, or to the Sanctuary of Water and Ice in the PlayStation version, where he will fight Axel and find the first Mask of Polokus.
Fire When Wetty is the sixth and last level of the Sea of Serendipity, the fourth world in Rayman Origins. Right away in this level, Rayman gets on the mosquito, and they go underwater. They must face various enemies such as Redfish, Blowfish, Ocean Spiders, and Jellyfish. Eventually, they leave the water, where they must face little, yellow birds and avoid an enemy that appears similar to the Giant Eel but is smaller, purple, and not able to be defeated. After a short time, they go underwater again and must avoid several of these purple eels. For a while, they must stay in between two eels. After this, they leave the water and arrive at the Mystical Pique, where Rayman can get off the mosquito. Here, he can break an Electoon cage and end the level.

When the pirate is dead, you can take a keg from the room at the right and use it to break the sparadrap holding a cage containing a purple lum.

Original version

When the pirate is dead, you can take a keg from the room at the right and use it to break the sparadrap holding a cage containing a purple lum.

The sanctuary is intact and features a mixed environment of water and ice, though it is slightly more predominant on the water side. As such, the boss of Whale Bay in the PS version is Axel, the Guardian of the Sanctuary of Water and Ice. Whale Bay's rendition is also unique in that it is the only appearance of Axel's to have dialogue.
In Revolution, Rayman must rescue Globox from the Canopy; otherwise, one of the Baby Globoxes will not help Rayman elude the Robo-Pirates guarding the entrance to Whale Bay. In Revolution, Rayman must rescue Globox from the Canopy; otherwise, one of the Baby Globoxes will not help Rayman elude the Robo-Pirates guarding the entrance to Whale Bay. Rayman in addition profits from rescuing Carmen--Carmen then chases off the tentacle blocking the entrance to the nearby Sanctuary of Stone and Fire.
In Rayman 2 Forever, the Game Boy Color adaptation of the game, Whale Bay directly follows the Marshes of Awakening, and is where the first Mask of Polokus is located. Carmen is completely absent aside from an appearance in the world's introductory panel (see right).
