Globox is a major character in the Rayman series, second only to Rayman himself in his prominence. Globox acts as a major ally in Rayman 2 and Rayman 3, and is a playable character in Rayman M, Rayman: Hoodlums' Revenge, Rayman Origins, Rayman Legends and Rayman Adventures. He is Rayman's best friend and has been since before the events of Rayman 2.

Description

Globox was originally a member of the Red Wizard clan, only becoming blue when attacked by a swarm of blue mosquitoes.

Appearance

Globox resembles a large, fat amphibian, who is blue-green in colour, with a pale yellow belly and hands. While the rest of his body is fat and heavy, he has long thin arms. His webbed feet and small eyes float separately from his body. He is noticeably taller than most of the inhabitants of the Glade, with the exception of such characters as Ly the Fairy and Clark the Giant. Globox has an extremely large mouth with a long purple tongue, he often uses it to store things such as Silver Lums, and, accidentally, André. His children have the same ability, as was shown late in the events of Rayman 2; one of his sons swallowed the fourth Mask of Polokus after finding it in the Iron Mountains (the Pirate Mines in Rayman Revolution), then he gave the mask to Rayman, once the latter had freed him and his siblings from the Spyglass Pirate's Robot Dinosaur. Globox used to be red, but one day while he was eating berries, he mistook a blue mosquito for a berry, and ate it. From inside Globox's belly, the mosquito called for help, and hundreds of other blue mosquitoes came to sting Globox. When they left him, Globox's red skin was covered in painful blue welts. These eventually seeped into his skin, turning it blue.

In Rayman Adventures, along with Rayman and Barbara, Globox sports a new adventurer outfit. He wears a sleeveless green coat over a buttoned white shirt, with the top unbuttoned. He also wears a small brown satchel, gray pants held up by a brown belt with a gold buckle, and brown shoes.

Abilities

Physically, Globox is quite strong, and provided that he has the confidence too (under the influence of plum juice in Rayman: Hoodlums' Revenge), he can inflict a strong blow on enemies, namely Hoodlums. Unfortunately, he is allergic to plum juice; when André was inside his stomach, he would force Globox to drink some, then it would have various effects on Globox, such as getting drunk, and burping out giant bouncy bubbles. While under the influence of plum juice in Clearleaf Forest, Globox realises that he can swim, and even manages to swim up an entire waterfall while avoiding piranhas. Plum juice can also give him an ability to fly, or float, into the air, allowing him to avoid such terrains in Rayman 3 that would prove difficult. This was most likely to have been inspired by this hovering technique in Rayman M, it also may be the inspiration for characters getting bubblized in Rayman Origins. In the UbiArt games, and all versions of Rayman M, it is suggested that Globox can run as fast as the others, despite his weight, but elsewhere he tends to walk slowly in a nervous state. In Rayman Origins and Rayman Legends, Globox can use the ability to glide without inflating and just by flapping his arms in the air.

Globox also has the ability to form rainclouds, albeit small ones that draw enough rain to either grow a plant quickly, put out fires, or rust a Robo-Pirate in self defence. Most other species would need to use a Rain Mask, which one of Globox's children gives to Rayman at the Pirate Mines in Rayman Revolution.

Personality

Globox is generally a warm and friendly character and a proud father of more than 650 children, though simple and very shy. Having been captured at least once in Rayman 2, he has grown an irrational fear of the Robo-Pirates, and often when he senses that they are near, he will run away and hide (notable in the Canopy), until he is sure that Rayman had destroyed them all. Similarly, he displays this fear in Rayman 3, this time of the Hoodlums and their attacks, unless he is under the influence of plum juice.

In Rayman 2, Globox speaks in broken English and has a deep voice, but in Rayman 3, his English has improved and his voice has attained a higher pitch.

Globox's personality changes between Rayman 2, Rayman 3 and Rayman Origins. While he remains Rayman's daft sidekick in these games, in Rayman 2 he is portrayed as a dim but loveable and well-meaning character, whereas in Rayman 3 he seems more articulate but less intelligent, and acts rude at times. While very cowardly in Rayman 2, in Globox can become very rash while under the influence of plum juice in Rayman 3, yelling drunken taunts at the Hoodlums and sometimes standing defiantly in their line of fire (though he is never hurt by this). In Rayman Origins, his personality changes almost completely, acting more dimwitted, cheerful, and no longer cowardly.

Biography

Globox and his family were created by Polokus as part of the non-magical People, as a result of the spirit's sense of humour. He was originally named "Globber", a name that has now been passed on to one of his children in order to rename himself. Together with his wife, Uglette, he is the proud father of at least 650 small children. In Rayman Revolution, it was revealed that he and his family live in a tree house near the Canopy, though in the Dreamcast version of Rayman 2, they live in a secret location hidden in the Woods of Light, named Globox Village.

In Rayman 2

After, came the adorable Globox and his family. Aren't they cute? The wise sages don't know what Polokus had in mind when creating them, but he truly used his sense of humour for inspiration.
Adorable, if a little simple, Globox is Rayman’s best friend. He has the power to create forceful little rain storms which can be used to put out fires or make plants grow. With the aid of his mate Uglette, he has produced a prodigious family: more than 650 children at the last count!
—Manual, Rayman 2
Globox's first appearance in-game.

Globox makes his first appearance in Rayman 2. His story, which begins before the game starts, is detailed in the game's manual. When the Robo-Pirates invade the Glade of Dreams, Rayman and Globox, along with their friends, join forces in rebellion against the enemy. One day, the heroes travel to the Great Forest to ambush the pirates. Globox helps by causing pirates to rest with his Rain Dance. Rayman praises his efforts, but loses his powers when the pirates destroy the Heart of the World, and is soon captures. This leaves Globox with no choice but to flee in hopes that he might find Ly the Fairy and ask for further instructions. Ly gives Globox a Silver Lum, and instructs him to surrender himself to the pirates.

The game opens in the Buccaneer, as Globox is thrown into the same cell as Rayman. Globox gives him the Silver Lum he received from Ly, which allows Rayman to shoot with his magic fist. Rayman smashes a metal grate covering an air vent, and together, he and Globox go down the chute. However, Globox knocks Rayman off the edge, and they become separated. From this point until he meets Ssssam in the Marshes of Awakening. When Rayman lands in the Woods of Light, he meets three baby Globoxes, and admits to them that he was separated from their father. Later, in the Marshes of Awakening, Rayman meets Ssssam, who informs him that Globox has been recaptured by the pirates and taken beyond the Marshes.

A hologram of Globox is used to represent the Canopy in the Hall of Doors.

When Rayman reaches the Canopy, he finds Globox imprisoned in a laser holding cell, near a sign referring to him as 'Public Enemy #2'. Rayman frees Globox, who joins him for the remainder of the level. He puts his Rain Dance to good use, growing helpful plants, putting out fires and short-circuiting electric laser fences. However, upon the sight of a warship, Globox runs back the way they came into a cave. Rayman goes back to reassure his friend that there's nothing to be scared of, and then, Globox remembers to give him a Silver Lum which upgrades the power of his magic fist. At the end of the level, Globox takes leave of Rayman, insisting that he must go and find his wife, Uglette.

Unfortunately, Globox gets captured again at the near end of the game, this time used as live bait to lure Rayman to the Crow's Nest. When he gets here, Razorbeard shoots him, but misses and hits the pole that hangs Globox upside down, but he insists that Rayman should carry on fighting the Grolgoth rather than saving him. It is unknown how he got down after the Crow's Nest fell apart, but whatever happens, he ends up back on the ground safely by the time he and his friends mourn their hero after the Buccaneer explodes, until Rayman turns up alive.

In Rayman Revolution

Though Globox's role in Rayman Revolution is similar to that in Rayman 2, a few new elements were added. In Revolution, Globox does not grant Rayman the ability to shoot his magic fist, but instead simply allows Rayman to punch. Globox's house, children, and relation with Uglette are depicted in a larger scale; one of his daughters is an important character later in the game, Uglette is constantly seen worrying about Globox, and his cliffside house's acres of land are the setting for the middle third of the game. Globox joins Rayman on a few occasions in a fashion similar to Clark or Globox's role in Rayman 3. Globox must be taken past Whale Bay to use his Rain Dance so as to enable entry to the Sanctuary of Stone and Fire.

In Rayman M, Rayman Arena and Rayman Rush

Had to overcome his shyness and fear (maybe he had therapy?) to risk his neck in this competition. While he might appear a bit awkward and clumsy, behind that oversized body lies a certain dexterity and fighting spirit.
—Manual, Rayman M

Globox is one of the five playable characters that are initially available in Rayman M. He is also playable in Rayman Arena and Rayman Rush.

The manual for the GameCube and Xbox versions of Rayman Arena offers the following description of Globox:

Profession: Model Father.

Likes: Sleeping under trees, playing with his boys, and rock music.
Dislikes: Danger, being woken up suddently by Tily, and journeys across the world.

Address: Third cave on the left in the magic mountains.

Several other skins appear for Globox in Rayman M and Rayman Arena.

In Rayman 3 and its spin-offs

Rayman’s best friend has at last got the role of his life: not only does he mistakenly swallow André, the chief of the black Lums, but he’s also chased by the Hoodlum army, who’re trying to get their boss back. A real character part!
—Manual, Rayman 3
Globox floating away after drinking plum juice.

Globox remains physically similar to his original appearance, though had become a comedic sidekick for this next appearance. Globox plays a major plot role, having accidentally swallowed André and having to find a doctor who would find a way to remove André from Globox during the first half of the game. During this time, Globox is forced by André to drink plum juice, despite his allergies, and during a somewhat drunken state he gains special abilities for short periods of time that are needed to progress Rayman through the game or move Globox forward through the level (by floating). Through the second half he plays a lesser role, though tends to follow Rayman on their journey, occasionally bringing up the odd surprise. He is notably voice acted by actor John Leguizamo.

In the Game Boy Advance version of Rayman 3

In this game, Globox is only seen in the introduction and ending scenes.

In Rayman: Hoodlums' Revenge

This guy is big! Really big! Unfortunately, he doesn't know what "big" means. All he knows is that "Shadows are scary" and Rayman is his best friend. His simple life got a lot more complicated when he swallowed the Dark Lum André. Now he's got a talking tummy ache and a desperate yearning for Plum juice, which makes him go berserk!

In Rayman: Hoodlums' Revenge, Globox follows Rayman through much of the game, similar to Rayman 3. Globox is also a playable character in some levels. Oftentimes there will be a puzzle-like sequence of events that requires the player to use both Rayman and Globox to move forward in the level. As André has been consumed once more, Globox can use the effects of plum juice to do certain things to move on in the stage, such as breaking metal bars.

In the Game Boy Advance version of Rayman Raving Rabbids

Globox makes a brief cameo appearance at the beginning of the Game Boy Advance version of Rayman Raving Rabbids. He is seen in the Agony jails where he thanks Rayman to have freed him.

In Rayman Kart

Globox, as he appears in Rayman Kart.

Globox makes an appearance as a playable character in Rayman Kart. He is unlocked from the start and his special power is to drop three baby Globoxes on the track.

In Rayman Origins and its spin-offs

A quiet force within the Glade, Globox is never to be underestimated. Always ready to lend a hand to his friends and adversaries alike, his mastery of Fung-Ku and etiquette comes down to the classic Gimme Five move, a solid smack that can knock you right out of your boxers! This glorious goober is, nevertheless, everything you could want in a friend. Always up for a little fooding, fighting, and power-napping, and always in good spirits, Globox is second to none when it comes to romping, bouncing, and bubblizing baddies. The mystery surrounding how the Glade’s all-time undefeated champion snoozer became blue is a matter of some speculation among the magic people. The other Red Wizards of his Vubooduboo-practicing clan whisper of venomous bubeastietubbis, while the Teensies favor an epic tale of high comedy featuring Globox’s fondness for sacred plum juice.
—Manual, Rayman Origins
The one and only Globox! Biggest glute in Glade! Champion of snoring songs; you honor me with your noisy naps! Not sure the neighbors are so psyched.. Livid Dead have no taste in music! Tickle them to death!

Globox next appears in Rayman Origins. The trailer shows Rayman's first meeting with Globox, prior to the events of the original Rayman game. It is said that Globox is Rayman's ‘double, his blood brother, his id’. Origins reveals that Globox is one of a group of beings known as the Red Wizards; like the other wizards, Globox was originally red, but he turned blue after being attacked by blue mosquitoes involving a berry picking incident. Red Globox is also an unlockable character in Origins. Globox can fly by flapping his arms, unlike in earlier games when he had to inflate in order to 'float'. Origins is also the first game that Globox has the ability to fight enemies. For some odd reason, Bubble Dreamer refers to Globox as "the biggest glute in the Glade" when that name was used in reference to bird-like creatures that only appeared in the beta of Rayman 3.

In Rayman Jungle Run

In Rayman Legends and its spin-offs

Globox is Rayman's best friend! He'll follow him anywhere as long as there's something to eat! Always in for a laugh, he remains a solid sidekick with a powerful arm to deliver strong slaps to baddies.
—Unknown, Rayman Legends

—In-game description, Rayman Legends, Rayman Adventures

Globox returns in Rayman Legends, fulfilling the same role as he did in Rayman Origins. He, alongside Rayman, a Grand Minimus and a Goth Teensy are awoken by Murfy at the beginning of Once upon a Time, beginning the events of the game.

In Rayman Adventures

Globox is hungry for a new adventure with his best friend, Rayman. He's agreed to sail around the world in the Captain's ship since the flight includes meal service!
