The Prison Ship is a level in Rayman 2: The Great Escape and its remakes. Rayman must travel through the Buccaneer, the Robo-Pirates' Prison Ship, to reach the Admiral Razorbeard and save Globox. The interior of this colossal ship is filled with poor wooden construction work, various metalworks, boilers, engines and computers, and many pools and tunnels of lava and fire. It is also where Rayman ultimately frees the Robo-Pirates' slaves – at least 45,263 of the Glade's inhabitants were imprisoned there over the course of the invasion. The Prison Ship is the second-last level of the game, and is followed by the final battle with Razorbeard's Grolgoth atop the Crow's Nest, another part of the Buccaneer.

Phase 1

A cut-scene plays before the actual level, depicting Razorbeard purchasing the Grolgoth from the General. The first phase of the level involves Rayman sliding down slippery platforms while avoiding lava and executing complex jumps. At the end, he jumps down a well to reach the next phase.

Phase 2

Rayman is now inside the ship itself. Here, he must activate a switch while fighting a Henchman 1000s who can jump through the air and uses a flamethrower. After activating the switch, Rayman obtains a Walking Shell.

Phase 3

The last phase involves Rayman flying around the ship on the shell, dodging various obstacles.

This version is almost identical, except for including an extra cutscene at the end. In this new scene, Rayman arrives in the corridor seen at the start of the game when the pirates take Globox to the cell, to find the prisoners still caged. Rayman breaks out the prisoners, who are typically Baby Globoxs and Teensies, as well as the bird seen in the Fairy Glade. Rayman then tells the freed prisoners to get off the ship whilst he finds Globox and fights Razorbeard. The scene then jumps into the cutscene between Razorbeard and his Lackey, that originally was placed at the start of the Crow's Nest

This version is almost identical, although it includes the cutscene that was introduced in the PS1 version, where Rayman rescues the prisoners from the begining of the game. Unlike the PS1 version however, the Teensies freed here can humourously be seen wearing Prison Uniforms. The ending is also slightly different, whereas originally Rayman hurried off to fight Razorbeard and the fate of the freed prisoners was never covered, here the group activates a portal and all exit, including Rayman. This clears up a minor inconsistency in other versions of the game, in that Rayman enters the Prison Ship but randomly returns to the Hall of Doors (having seemingly achieved nothing) and then enters a different portal to The Crows Nest. In Revolution, he leaves having freed the prisoners, and then returns to the ship VIA a shell to fight Razorbeard.

Interestingly, in this version of the game, The Prison Ship is the only level that can only be reached by a portal, having no entrances on any map.
