Tings are present everywhere
The seven different Ting colours seen in Rayman Designer

A Ting is a collectable item from the original Rayman game. It is a small blue crystal ball that is found scattered across the region in large numbers, often leading Rayman to hidden cages or to safety. Collecting 100 Tings gets Rayman a bonus life and resets his Ting count back to 0. If Rayman loses a life, he will lose all Tings he is currently holding. It is also apparently used as some kind of currency, as ten Tings are needed to be paid to the Magician in order to enter one of his bonus levels.

In Rayman Designer, there are Tings of various colours; collecting all Tings of a specific colour will trigger events such as the opening of passages.

In Rayman Junior, Betilla and the Magician refer to Tings as “Bubbles”.

In the Game Boy Color adaptation of the game, Tings are revealed to be tiny fairies inside their glassy spheres. These Tings wake Rayman up from his slumber at the beginning of the game, and warn him of Mr Dark's plot.

In the 2D prototype version of Rayman 2, Tings are silvery and metallic; they reflect the colour of their surroundings. Tings are much rarer here, and only ten are required to earn an extra life.
