Finally got my e-bike's brakes adjusted, the front brake has quite literally just not braked for the better part of a year, and the back one is just about shot by now as well. No clue why I've been putting it off for this long, especially considering there's a cyclery just 3 minutes by where I live. I may be stupid.

Don't commit suicide by faulty brakes! You have a beautiful life ahead of you.

So today I'm trying a rather different, yet somewhat related experiment:
microstrobili-in-crucible.jpg
Instead of female berries, I'm carbonizing these male cones (microstrobili) at 1000 °C, which will presumably also remove all the toxins! :P
More importantly, it will be interesting to see what kind of microstructure (if any :oops2:) I get in the resulting char… :hap:

This week I took some crushed yew microstrobili I had cooked at 330 ºC and 250 ºC, and heated them to 600 ºC with KOH for an hour. When I took them out of the furnace, some of the powder had turned slightly blue! :confus: I don't know if I'll use this stuff (as some of you already know, I've cut it short and am hoping to finish with an MSc at the end of the year) but it's still a weird and interesting thing that happened!
