Hey hugocool ;)
If Droolie asked me to upload the whole soundtrack and not the separate files, it's probably because he didn't feel like creating one link per file. As far as I know, he's already busy with a lot of things, so I'm not sure he'll have time to do it.
Anyway, let's wait for his answer :)

One option is ofcourse to put, for example, all level 1 songs into 1 seperate song!
I'm using "soundforge"! 8)

No way. Last time he fused songs in the MONO R3 soundtrack, it was NOT GOOD. We want to have the songs seperated, as they were meant to be, so we can skip between them, not have to fast-forward through several songs just to hear one. Not to mention the confusion it causes. Why don't you just download the R2 N64 soundtrack and delete the songs you don't like?

Why is it that the R2 N64 soundtrack takes so much longer to download than the R2 N64 ROM?

Because they're all MP3 files packed in a zip?

I notice that with lots of games. I don't understand it either, the soundtrack is somehow a bigger file than the entire game.

The music is often very well compressed, unlike MP3's in a ZIP. :P
For example, the music from N64 games is made by having some sounds, and playing them in the right order to make music ( that way, the difference in size between N64 music and MP3 is huge! ). It's a bit like playing a midi file with WAVE samples for each instrument.

In a lot of games, the musics are not encoded in mp3 or something like that.

The PC versions of Rayman 2-3 use ADPCM encoding (that's a 1/4 compression ratio compared to wav). The PC version of Rayman 1 uses the audio tracks of the CD (sort of Wav format).

The N64 (and NDS) versions have musics encoded a totally different way. The format is close to Mod, XM, IT...
The sounds and the music data are stored separately in the same file. Samples are simple wav files. The music data doesn't take a lot of place because it only stores the "score" (i.e. what to play and when, for example F#, octave 4, using instrument number 3, etc.) Several music files can even use the same instruments.
The music is then rendered in real-time during the game, so that's why sometimes even mp3s are bigger than the entire ROM.

[EDIT] Sorry, Drolpiraat has been quicker than me :D

The R2 N64 soundtrack has all the music as MP3s, converted from the original MIDIs.

I was wondering if it would be possible to get the soundtrack with all the music still as MIDI files and if so where I can find them.

I never said that they were MIDI files. There were USF files, that's the Nintendo 64 music format.
You can download the USF files here: http://www.hcs64.com/usf/sets/rayman2usf.zip
And you can play them with Winamp and this plugin here.
You can't convert them to MIDI though. :(

Oh... Ok.
I just thought that they sounded like MIDIs, that's all. I didn't know that they were USFs.

Thanks anyway.

Oh yeah, that old chestnut…
I have a feeling that the guy who started that was the same troll who started "Rayman 1 and 2 against the others" or whatever it was, that Greeness considered the best RPC movie!
