Re: Rayman 2
It's amazing, it makes me want to hear the full official version. As usual for the AI, voices are quite unnatural/inaccurate, and yet they fit perfectly to the Robo-pirates, unlike to the rest of the characters unfortunately (in my opinion).
I don't think that there are going to be any official dub these days. I wonder what happened to the polish distribution license and under what conditions it was signed. Does Empik still has any rights related to this franchise? If even so, they don't seam to care.paulnewman2001 wrote: Fri Oct 09, 2020 6:58 pm If any kind of official dub ever comes out for this game (kind of doubtful, honestly, it's pretty old game by now) then I'd have used the Polish dub cast from 3.

Dunno, I'm not really keen on this side of things, I rarely even play games these days, mostly due to work and the fact that my PC is pretty shitty...Nve wrote: Fri Oct 09, 2020 8:37 pmIt's amazing, it makes me want to hear the full official version. Re: Rayman 2
Even a toaster of a computer could run Rayman 2. I tried to run Rayman 3 on a crappy old one with Intel graphics before and it couldn't even go 60fps lol.
Re: Rayman 2
Would you believe it that I first played Rayman 3 on a laptop? With a crappy laptop keyboard that can't even register 2 cardinal directions + two action keys at once? I think think I connected an external one at some point during the playthrough. The laptop had a Mobility Radeon 7500 card, which was not a bad one back in 2002.
My first Rayman 2 plathrough was on a AMD K6-II with 3dfx Voodoo 3. The way it was meant to be played.

Re: Rayman 2
I always used my dad's Fujitsu Siemens Amilo A Series CY26 (222mb RAM, AMD 2000 graphics, 18 GB HHD, Intel CPU I forgot the model of) to play game computers, mainly Rayman M that run smoothly. I tried installing Rayman 2 a while ago, after getting a retail copy, on said pc, but the graphics were extra blurry, so blurry the Teensie in the menu looked faceless and the text kind of disappeared.
Kind of a nightmare.

Re: Rayman 2
I think that's what happens when you have over 2 GB VRAM – it wraps around so the game thinks you have a negative amount of VRAM. That doesn't sound likely to be the case here though.
Re: Rayman 2
It's nice that you can just limit the VRAM on Linux though to workaround this and still use DX6.
Re: Rayman 2
Licomp Empik - the publisher doesn't exist anymore AFAIK. That's why they probably don't care and Polish versions for R2 and R3 are not available on Uplay. Though I think more regional releases are not available on Uplay too.Does Empik still has any rights related to this franchise? If even so, they don't seam to care.
As for my first rig playing Rayman 2 -
Compaq desktop, Pentium MMX 166MHz, integrated 4MB GPU (no more than 8MB for sure), 64MB RAM, Windows 98, 15" CRT. I think 20 FPS in some places on resolution not higher than 640x480.
Initially I had the same problem with textures you mentioned, and other GPU drivers fixed it.
I remember playing original regional release these days, and that was really something...
Re: Rayman 2
I didn't play the game back then, but while we're on the subject, I remember my first Packard Bell PC. It had a 451MHz CPU (AMD I believe), 64MB RAM, 8GB HDD, Windows 98, and I also had one of those 15" beige CRTs lol.
It was pretty terrible, but it got the job done at the time. I played a lot of solitaire on it.

Re: Rayman 2
Later I had AMD 350Hz with Voodoo 3 and 128MB RAM, which handled even MoHAA subjectively well, but Omaha Beach was terribly lagging. Most probably due to lack of native OpenGL driver but just MiniGL or something and it heavily bottlenecked CPU. Such memories.
Re: Rayman 2
Was it fast enough for you?
Re: Rayman 2
It allowed to play flawlessly popular AVIs encoded by DivX ;-)/Xvid those days, so hell yea.
Later we formatted the system, and weren't able to pick proper drivers/codecs to make the video playback great again. It stuttered ;(
Actually, it was enough to convert movie to WMV, e.g. to 320x240 or maybe even more, and it runned well I think even on this Pentium MMX.
In overall, the system wasn't stable for some reason vs even my weaker rigs. Meanwhile I also had Pentium II 300MHz with some integrated 8MB Radeon, and tried to play NFSHP2 on it, but in minimum requirements it had 750Hz, so it was a big no go. Actually I even played on it shortly in Rayman 3, but it barely kept 20 FPS, and wasn't really playable.
Maybe if I'd disabled soundcard it would be better. It helps with some games xd
Since then I even started to be prejudiced to AMD and later stupidly invested in Pentium D 3xx when AMD was much better in gaming those days. Then in San Andreas I had some unpleasant FPS drops along with Radeon 9550 and rig was finished when I couldn't achieve much above 18-20 FPS in NFS Pro Street. Some years later I found out that 9550 was very overcklockable. It could save me a bit. And maybe Crysis on low details wouldn't run so bad (19-25 on average).
But man, a year later, that feeling playing Crysis on C2D/9600GT on ultra in 23-25 FPS for the first time... Priceless.

Re: Rayman 2
This past week, I got the very rare Rayman 2 beach ball that Ubisoft released here in North America as a special big box bundle with the PlayStation version. I'm sure a lot of you saw this on my Twitter tonight but I thought I'd share it here as my first post (second if you include my introduction post). This thing is way too big to display but I did blow it up for the sake of the picture!

Re: Rayman 2
I had seen the tweet you made about it, that's really nice how you managed to find it!

Wonderful!
I knew of the toys from French McDonald's and some Rayman plushie, I wonder how many relics for Rayman 2 we have yet to discover.

Thanks, guys!
I've learned a lot about Rayman 2 relics from this awesome website to tell you the truth. The McDonald's toys are so rare and so neat! Do we know if they ever released in the US or were they just in France?

Couldn't agree more, this community is truly the best to be documented about Rayman stuff.thatgamernerd wrote: Wed Oct 14, 2020 1:22 am Thanks, guys!
