Forum rules and guidelines

Post by PluMGMK »

We are all here to enjoy ourselves and share our passions for Rayman and other common interests. To ensure the forum remains a pleasant place for all members and visitors, the team has decided to put in place a set of rules for how members are expected to behave when posting an interacting.

Before going into the specifics: please remember that this is a forum, not a chat. Each post takes up considerable screen space, and discussions are browsable for years, or even decades, after they take place (this is not a bad thing!). So, when posting, please consider the person reading your discussion in a few hours, or a few days, or a few weeks, or even a few years. The future reader should be able to understand what is being discussed, and not have to wade through pages of nonsense.

With that in mind, here are some rules that we are all expected to observe, with penalties for failing to do so:
  • With some exceptions (see below), double-posting (or triple-posting etc.) is not allowed. In other words, if you have the last post in a topic, you generally should not make another post after it until somebody else replies. If you break this rule, your posts will be merged (with corresponding reduction in post count) and Tings will be deducted as a penalty.
    • If you have something to add to your message, you can edit the existing post using the icon to the top-right of it that resembles a pencil.
    • If you want to quote multiple posts in your reply, you can use the quote buttons in the "topic review" below the editor when you are initially making your post (or else just manually copy-paste the text inside quote tags).
  • Short posts, especially those consisting of a single word or smiley, are not considered to be of value. They can and will be deleted on sight, and repeat offenders may be penalized with Ting deductions.
  • Try to stay on-topic. Threads lose their value when the conversation degenerates into pages of irrelevant chatter, and it becomes harder to understand and engage with the original topic of discussion. For this reason, irrelevant posts can and will be deleted on sight, and repeat offenders may be penalized with Ting deductions.
  • Don't "bump" topics without good reason. That is, don't post in a topic that has not been posted in for over a month, unless you have concrete new information or insight to add.
  • Don't create multiple threads about the same thing. If your thread is locked or deleted and you want to discuss it, please do so with the moderating team by private messages.
  • Forum signatures should be no taller than 350px in height. This includes text, quotes, images, and RayTunes tracks.
  • This is a forum, and not all participants in a discussion will agree on everything. If you disagree with someone, please remain courteous while discussing the matter. Do not insult or belittle other members, or otherwise create an unpleasant atmosphere. Severe Ting deductions will result, and bans for repeat offences.
Here are some exceptions to the double-posting rule:
  • If you have more than five images to post as attachments, you will need to split them across multiple posts. This is allowed, for example if you have a topic where you're sharing drawings you've made.
  • If you have the last post in a topic and nobody has replied for at least a week, and you have something new to say that is genuinely interesting, you can make a new post.
Additionally, here are some recommendations to make things run more smoothly for everyone:
  • If you make a point, please try to elaborate on it. Of course, not every post has to be a wall of text, but please try to make the reader understand what you are saying and why you think that way, so people don't have to guess and/or make several clarification posts.
  • When posting images, it's best to upload them as attachments rather than using img tags to link to external sites. Attachments are stored on RaymanPC's server, and we will make sure they stay in place as long as the forum exists. Whereas external images can disappear overnight, and then the meaning of posts containing them is lost. External images may also not be visible to everyone due to the use of ad-blockers and similar software.
  • Similar concerns apply to external videos. While videos cannot be uploaded as attachments, please consider the possibility that someday someone may read your post when the video is no longer available. Try to provide some information about what is in the video (e.g. if posting a song, include the artist and title) so that future readers will still understand the context, and may even be able to find the video uploaded elsewhere after the original disappears.
  • Please think carefully before starting a new thread. Ask yourself if there's an existing thread where you could ask the same question or post the same content. If you're not sure, you can use the search function to see if anyone has asked the same question or made the same point previously.
