OK, look what we'll do: here's the minor spoiler we've been talking about:
[Picture City is officially cancelled. Hunch asked the guys at the Paris game festival]. A brave, unspoilt hero/heroine must endeavor in the quest to achieve enlightenment by means of this magically invisible message. Then, should he decide that said text isn't worthy of the brackets, he shall share it with the unspoilt ones. Who shall take upon his shoulders the burden of knowledge, come forth and we shall proceed in the ceremonies.

Ok, so I read the invisible text there. I trusted you guys not to rick me and put something extremely spoiler-ery in there, and I wasn't let down. Haruka it's ok to read that text above, it's nothing much. Really small. Didn't spoil me at all since I was already expecting this would happen. I mean, since [the whole game is like a big Picture City, I wasn't expecting a small world for it.] Haruka, trust me, just read it. ok, no more spoiler-ising for me!

Please don't try and correct me for the mistakes I made there, because I'm aware of them.

That's funny, when I first saw the newest rayman in 2D I thought, damn you ubi, you're not even wishing to make a 3D rayman. Well it turned out that it was Michel ancel idea and this whole thing looks more appealing with every video. I still hope for a continuation after rayman 3 (I don't count bunnies as the rayman game).

I never finished rayman 1. I was a very small kid when I was playing it and it was too hard for me. Then I got rayman 2 and I dived into rayman's world. You might call me a heretic but I don't take rayman 1 as a part of rayman's story. It was a developing concept, not anything solid. The best evidence is the fact that rayman 2 was totally different. We got totally new characters. There are no connections between rayman 1 and 2. Rayman 3 has many references to rayman 2 and definetly stays in the same concept. Now Origins try to retell the story so that it fits correctly with rayman 2 and 3. I like that because rayman for me started with second part and it seems that all the other parts are now to connect to this part.

Even animated series is having the influence of rayman 2 - razorbeard as a trainer of circus "attractions" including rayman.

I hope for another 3D rayman. Am working personally on the models now, maybe some day I'll do a short animation vid to show my concept... For now I am glad with rayman origins(will be more glad when it's out on PC or Ipod). Ah I hope they will change the name of Mr. Dark it sounds so crappy! Let Michel Ancel bring back rayman to it's real fans. Rabbids go home!!!

And by my earlier post I was describing my feelings about whole series BASING on the newest part Rayman Origins.

The best evidence is the fact that rayman 2 was totally different. We got totally new characters. There are no connections between rayman 1 and 2. Rayman 3 has many references to rayman 2 and definetly stays in the same concept.

You’re right in saying that the original game is the odd one out, but that doesn’t mean that the developers regretted it, or that they were trying to erase it from the series. There are few clear connections, but if you look more closely, you’ll see Rayman 2 and 3 are packed with references to the original – too many to list.

Now Origins try to retell the story so that it fits correctly with rayman 2 and 3. I like that because rayman for me started with second part and it seems that all the other parts are now to connect to this part.

So you’re saying that Rayman Origins is a remake/replacement for the original? I see Origins’s blending of R1 elements with those of the later games as an attempt to bring the original game back into the fold, not supplant it.

List me 10 connections between rayman 1 and 2 - I challenge ya. The story doesn't match with next parts at all. I am 100% sure that Origins is a retell of the story from rayman 1 so that it matches. I don't think they try to throw the rayman 1 away, the best evidence is the fact that origins is in 2D which is an evident hail for first part. By saying it wasn't solid I mean the story only. The game itself was very solid and had great success and that's undeniable. But! It was more of concept show then actual story of rayman. We have pollokus back in origins. There was no pollokus in rayman 1! Yet we have the same green guys as in the first part and Mr. Dark so it is a retell for me.

You can't be a hundred percent sure it's a retell if the first thing said about this game is that it's a prequel. Also, the world system is based on that of R1. Regarding the connections between R1 and R2, the biggest in my opinion is Great Protoon=Heart of the World.

Manipulating information is what I do best. I meant that the game is popular and fondly remembered, not some obsure, forgotten relic that can be swept under the rug and ignored. I didn’t claim that it had a particularly strong story.

List me 10 connections between rayman 1 and 2 - I challenge ya.

1: The Rayman 2 manual makes a direct reference to the defeat of Mr Dark at the hands of Rayman.
2: The nenuphars, unique floating flower platforms from R1, appear in R2.
3: Antitoons, enemies from R1, appear in the PlayStation version of R2.
4: Large pink mosquitoes, which appear in R1, also appear in R2.
5: Popolopoï, large blue butterflies which appear in R1, also appear in R2.
6: Giant plums, which can be used to cross water and decapacitate enemies, are found in R1, and also appear in R2.
7: Both R1 and R2 feature a mystical pink orb upon which the well-being of the world rests.
8: Both R1 and R2 feature large pink fluttering rings which Rayman can grab and use to swing.
9: Giant piranhas with blue backs and orange underbellies appear in R1, and they also appear in R2.
10: The Saturn version of R1 ends with Mr Dark’s windows shattering to reveal binary moons, which later reappear in R2.

All of these connections, minor and major, serve to ground these games in the same universe. (And rest assured, if you had said ‘connections between R1 and R3’, I would have presented an even stronger case.) I had thought that Rayman Origins would settle this type of argument once and for all – apparently not!

Every prequel brings with it continuity errors – that’s unavoidable. I’m not sure how you came to the conclusion that Origins is a retelling of R1’s story: one game tells of the birth of the fledgling hero, and how he must amuse the Bubble Dreamer to end his nightmares and defeat both the Livid Dead and Mister Dark, while the other tells how the established hero must end a new attack from Mister Dark and recover the Great Protoon. I would say these are fairly different plots.

You’re not the first one to point this out, but I still don’t understand it. What does the game’s genre have to do with its chronology? 2D games receive 3D sequels, and 3D games receive 2D sequels. It works both ways. The format of the game has nothing to do with the universe it depicts, and can’t be used to deduct such things.

I don’t mind if you weren’t impressed by the game’s story – just don’t try to deny it its place in the series. It certainly wasn’t a ‘concept show’ – as I said, it was a full-fledged retail game. Sure, the developers’ conceptions of Rayman’s world have evolved over the years, and they will continue to do so. New elements have been inserted, such as Polokus and Globox. Old elements have been removed, like limbless characters. But this is simply the gradual evolution of the series – not a paradigm shift that leaves the original behind.
