Yes, but people don't usually complain when you and Haruka make racist jokes against Americans. I never really minded, but I don't understand why others take it so personally. I guess the difference was me defending my position.Rulez wrote:To be fair, anything I say that comes off as offensive is usually supposed to be a really bad joke.

Hey, question does Jasmis exist in america ? Because when I still was in Bahrain, they were all kind of fast-food resaurants like PizzaHut, McDonalds, Burger King, ... and Jasmis. Here in germany there is no jasmis, but maybe it is just a restaurant in the arabian countries.

Re: Burgers
Well, virtually all humour is derived from the idea of degrading something, so every joke is offensive to a massively varying degree. If you take Rulez for instance, his humour is incredibly hard to find offensive most of the time (unless you're really, really new) because it's so ridiculously executed. Obviously there are boundaries ('too soon', etc), but what makes something offensive is moreso the execution than what's being implied.Serza5 wrote:I fail to see why you need to make a joke "offensive" to be funny. Technology clearly isn't racist, but the joke was executed perfectly straight, which given the circumstance of nearly everyone here being European, makes it just eye-rollingly lame. If there were a more even split then maybe it would have worked 10% better (which still isn't really mch). To expand upon why: it's one guy walking into a room full of others of a different culture and already putting up a border between something as trivial as food. Clearly it was meant in humour, but it shows that, just for a split second, you're willing to put yourself above the other culture, excluding yourself, and being okay with it. Unless you've become really close buddies with the people of the board who are perfectly comfortable around you and who know your personality well, it's better not to partake in such an arrogant form of humour.
Re: Burgers
Adsolution explained one thing, but the part that bothered me most was you implying this is the only fucking type of humour I have.Serza5 wrote:I do believe this is the part where you explain why you think that.Rulez wrote:There's a few things wrong with this post and some right.Serza5 wrote: I fail to see why you need to make a joke "offensive" to be funny. Re: Burgers
I do not mean to imply such things about people although i'm perfectly aware that I do make out to be that way; which I apologize for. The post was aimed more at those type of jokes in general more-so than people who make them, even though I quoted directly from you. I can only but apologize for the confusion; I do not mean to imply things about our members in my posts that would come off as arrogant.

Re: Burgers
It's quite alright Serza. It's just that the way you said "I fail to see why you need to make a joke "offensive" to be funny" made it seem like you think my mindset is essentially "I have to be funny, ergo I must be offensive".

I certainly don't think that, I question some of the jokes you make but I know your intentions aren't to offend anyone.

When did this turn from what do you like in your burger to racist/offensive jokes?
Anyway, I just like ketchup or chilli sauce...
Don't judge me.

I can picture Rulez joking around, given his personality, but I don't think Haruka would ever do something like that. I never seen her do so either.Haruka wrote:I might be suffering short memory but can you please explain me what did I do?technology4617 wrote: It isn't like any Europeans haven't been racist against Americans. Re: Burgers
You posted a map for the American's view of Europe. I wasn't really offended, but I was just using you as an example for posting a marginally racist (Adsolution will pick on me for using that word, but I hope you understand what I mean) post that people didn't take offense to.Haruka wrote:I might be suffering short memory but can you please explain me what did I do?
Granted, 99.9% of the people here are Europeans, so I guess your post was a bit different.
I wasn't offended by any of his jokes, but, again, I was just using examples for my argument.Adsolution wrote:Well, virtually all humour is derived from the idea of degrading something, so every joke is offensive to a massively varying degree. Oh, that thing. I was only joking kindly, I didn't really mean it to be serious but if it really did offend you then I'm sorry since it was not my intention.

Re: Burgers
It didn't offend me, as I knew it was intended for a joke. I actually found it amusing, since some of the stuff on the map is actually the more idiotic Americans (and old people) view Europe. I was using it as an example, because it seemed a lot of people took offense to my joke, which was intended for nothing more for humor as well.Haruka wrote:Oh, that thing. Re: Burgers
Fries. Not that I would eat them. Because then I'd get fatter, when in fact I'm trying to avoid the damn stuff.
