How would you Rank the Rayman 1 Versions?

Post by StelzenBomber »

As the title says, How would you rank the R1 Versions?
I have a few rules tho:
1: For PC we use the Forever version
2: Any new releases (psN, Virtual console) will count as GBA and PS1
3: Andriod and IOS will be ranked both and not in 1
4: Sega Saturn counts as it's own
5: And Lastly , GBC counts as it's own game so i would not rank it, if you want you can tho.

So now that that's out of the way, i will start ranking From Favourite to Least favourite.

1: The DSI version
I like this one the most because Nostalgia... And its a great version if you are on a bus.

2: The PS1 Version
This Version Is the best in several way but i cant put it on number 1 ( I blame you Bongo hills part 1!)

3:The Sega Saturn Version
Looks better than PS1 but has WAY too long load times for me

4:The GBA Version ( Advance)
A realy impresive version for the gba, Eat at Joe's Part 1 is way harder tho

5: IOS (Classic)
Just a great version, Make sure to play it with a controller tho, without it its almost imposible

6: The PC Version ( Forever)
Better level design than The PS1 Version, Misses half of the soundtrack, also i dont think it has controller support
EDIT1: The PC version Fucked up more than i thought.
The music just plays in a straight line and not like on ps1 where there was a stage specific music
Also it has wired voic acting
and bad controlls ( no seriously Why do i have to press CTRL while croutching just to crawl?)

7: Atari Jaguar
Idk What to say about this version, Soundtrack and Soundeffects don't feel Right and the level design is wird, At least no slippery (R.I.P. Fun in Allegro Presto)

8: Android
No contoller support even if they say it in the description, just dumb. Also its almost imposible to play without Easy mode.
If they patch it it, this version would be the same as IOS, and i would be Happy.

So thats it.
My opinion about the R1 Versions
I don't know where to rank Ultimate since i Havent even Played that version and i have no idea how to get it.

Rank Your Versions Down bellow :)

Sorry if there are typos

1. PS1
I know it's the hardest (and don't even get me started on Bongo Hills), but I had to because of the design and best gaming experience.

2. Sega Saturn
Its graphics are better, sure, and the colors are more vibrant, but I prefer the PS1 version's deep and darker colors.

3. PC
A lot of the game's soundtrack has been cut from this version and a lot of level parts are missing, so yeah. :?

4. Jaguar
The audio quality is really bad and a lot of levels have been cut from this version as well, just like the PC version.

5. GBA
Same as Jaguar.

6. Mobile (Rayman Classic)
The controls, oh my god! Touch controls? Heck no!

I won't make my decision just yet but I think I'll be going with PS1 first as that's the one I remember. If my saturn copy arrives tomorrow though I'll see what it's like.

About the Jaguar though, as far as I know that was actually the original version before it was even ported to anything else. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong as I've been wrong before

I don't know, I remember having that impression too, back in the day. But when you see the way they nerfed Allegro Presto, it's impossible to believe that, really.

Even if it turns out to be awful compared to the game we know I still want to get it anyway. The price is absolutely crazy though :fou2:

I think it was supposed to have been in development on the Jaguar long before anything else. I'm just going to assume I'll still favour the PS1 version due to all the memories of playing it but I'll have to see what I think of this saturn version and have another look at the DSi version. Kind of best if I recap on them all first :P

I agree on that also. The sound on PS1 is definitely far better than Jaguar judging by the videos I've seen. Both music and sound effects. I'm assuming the Jaguar was probably Midi and PS1 was actual audio tracks.

Where do people keep getting this from? The graphics are the exact same, colours too, barring some visual effects. :P It's not even that the Saturn's effects are better either - it added a few things, but it's also missing some effects that are present in the PS1 version, and some seem to just have been changed for no discernible reason... usually for the worse, in my opinion. The only colour difference is on the Saturn's video output which has a weird, slightly desaturated green tint, which some emulators might emulate too for authenticity (I'm not sure about that though).

I love the glass shattering effect and the shimmering Sun in Gong Heights, but that's about it. A couple of the background changes I like (especially the space background in the area before Space Mama), but I think most of them don't make sense (they for some reason used sunny backgrounds in almost every single storm screen), I think the hill crawling animation looks absolutely terrible! But yeah, I actually do kind of like the green tint for some reason, but I don't even know if it's present on anything but a real console, so I don't really count it.

Is that green tint visible with an RGB Scart cable? I've heard that the pink plant woods has no fog effect on Saturn and apparently the PS1 utilities midi. I seen it in a thread on here before.

It's actually here:

It is, but I don't know where it comes from in the first place.
Steo wrote:and apparently the PS1 utilities midi. I seen it in a thread on here before.
Yeah, the PS1 version has special MIDI tracks that trigger mid-level during certain athletic sections, which are completely absent on the Saturn Version. It's also probably worth noting that the Saturn only outputs the music in mono for some reason.

Hmm. I'll try it out in a while if my game arrives today.

That's kind of odd about the mono thing as I'm sure they wouldn't have been running out of space on the disc. I didn't know the PS1 actually did utilise midi and thought everything was just played like an audio CD. I always noticed when I was a kid and I opened the top and held down the little button that the games spun slower like a music CD when music was playing but spun really fast when loading data.

Still learning things after all these years :P

It's incredibly odd, since the files are in stereo, it just outputs in mono for some reason...!

The PS1 version is, I swear, the only version without some core issue glaring you in the face.

I just done a quick search there because I know the original Mega Drive / Genesis model 1 only has mono sound through AV. The Saturn does in fact have stereo so this actually is an odd one. I seen a thread about Exhumed for some reason being mono in PAL/NTSC-U but the JAP version is in stereo?

That's actually a weird one indeed.

Edit: apparently it's know as Powerslave elsewhere and Exhumed in EU.
