Outdated RayTunes Albums

Post by DitherEmotion »

So, ever since the last update for RayTunes, some sequenced Rayman (and Tonic Trouble) soundtracks have gotten proper rips that which are higher quality than what is on RayTunes, but have flown under the radar due to the site they're being hosted on (https://vgm.hcs64.com/) being relatively obscure outside of hardcore VGM circles, so may as well bring some attention to them.

-Rayman Advance: A rip has existed for a very, very long time (since the early 2000s I'm pretty sure), but RayTunes appears to use the MP3s from Zophar's Domain instead of converting the original GSF rip, and those MP3s were rendered with a sample smoothing option on, which is not accurate to what the game is supposed to sound like. Also, a tagged version of that rip was made by my friend Scott Rubin a few years ago, and put up on HCS.

-Rayman: Hoodlums' Revenge: A rip was made all the way back in 2019 by loveemu and tagged by another mutual of mine called frankybuster (or BlackYoshi485, as he was known back then). It shares (mostly) the same tags as the RayTunes upload.

-Rayman Raving Rabbids (GBA): The rip for this game was done in 2021 by loveemu and tagged by me. It features two versions, one with the original mixing rate (15 kHz), which is what you hear in-game and in the RayTunes upload, and another with a much higher mixing rate (31.537 kHz), close to the 32.768 kHz the GBA resamples its sound output to. This leads to a much cleaner sound, without the imperfections that come with conversions to other formats. The tags are different to the RayTunes version, using level names as opposed to original titles, but I could update them to use the RayTunes titles if people prefer those. :D

-Tonic Trouble (N64): This rip was done fairly recently (just little over a year ago!) by Josh W, who is basically the only person doing N64 rips that is still around. This rip lacks the fade-in some songs on the RayTunes album have (such as "Grögh's Defeat") and has 5 more songs than on RayTunes, although I don't know if they are unused songs, jingles or just duplicates as I'm far from a Tonic Trouble expert and the rip is currently untagged.
