Polymarket has France at 19%, Argentina at 15%, Spain at 14% and England at 13%. Anything can happen, I guess.

Looking at our performances on the field, I'd be a goddamn hypocrit if I said American football belonged in Europe though

A rickroll would have been fun, and probably well deserved given the level of amateurism here.

Eh as long as Argentina doesn't win I'm happy. Call me a sore loser but I'm part of the camp that says Argentina either got lucky with a corrupt ref or they committed matchfixing.

I guess it'd be fun seeing Brazil win again after its 7-1 disaster against Germany in 2014, that game did a lot of emotional damage so I I guess I'd like them to be as celebrated as they used to be.

This year, I see France as the clear favorite. They play well, and they know how to break through when the situation calls for it. They have a very well-rounded team in every position, but above all, they have pure, raw firepower up front. Honestly, things would have to go very badly for them not to win their third World Cup. The only teams that might be able to go head-to-head with them are Brazil and Argentina.

Am I the only one who thinks the idea of teams qualifying even if they were P3 is total crap?

I agree and I'd also like to add, and amend what I said before, that I'd also like to see Morocco win and I think they have a real chance of winning as well.

More games, more dosh. Therefore participation trophies for everyone. Trumps second peace prize will not pay for itself.

I love seeing people say that Trump is responsible for the entire World Cup organization
And honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if we witness a South Korea 2.0., but in 2026. Playing against the host is never a good idea, but with everything going on with Infantino... We'll see.

___

Seriously though, the proposed format is really stupid. What's the point of Argentina, as the winner of the group, having a walk in the park all the way to the semifinals, while other teams, also winners in their groups, face incredibly tough opponents? If everything had gone as usual, France would have faced Germany in the round of 16; the Netherlands and Morocco, both incredibly strong teams, have faced off as early as the round of 32! Portugal and Croatia are facing off right now in the round of 32, too! And let's not even get started on the embarrassment of the Algeria-Austria match.

I think it would make more sense for the group winners to advance directly to the round of 16, and for the second-place teams to face each other in a round of 32 match. That way, we'd actually see that finishing first in your group gives you some kind of advantage.

Let's just say that Argentina has a history of dubious referee actions and questionable wins, this is nothing new and I wouldn't be surprised if the cup was rigged in their favor (once again).
Yes, it could be that Trump has meddled with the world cup, as he literally can't stop meddling around with anything he can get his hands on. Or that Infantino (seriously, imagine having a surname that basically labels you as an adult baby) made some deals to fund that fake peace prize.

Or perhaps it was one of the other dictators present at the event, who knows?
