Oh well, they're already selling boxes with CDs that don't contain the full game, and even when they do, those often are glitchy versions that require downloading patches anyway. Now we'll just be buying empty boxes instead!

This is very disappointing, especially considering their current track record with digital media you buy on their platform, since they'll pulling purchased shows and movies from people's libraries as well?

Looks like I'll be exclusively buying games from Steam then for as long as Gabe Newell is running it.
I'm moreso fearing the day Gabe isn't running Valve anymore.

Really disappointing news, but I almost exclusively play games on my Switch and Switch 2 anyway, so I'm not too personally shaken by it.

When you think about it, this just means that there will be no such thing as retrogaming for the current generation of games...
Re: Sony to end physical PlayStation game disc production in January 2028
Very concerning news for the long-term preservation of the future generations of games. I don't buy new Sony systems since PS4 and decisions like this don't really help. I never gave up on the physical format as long it's an option. If it's exclusively digital, I turn my attention to Steam if that same game content it isn't even on GOG. If Nintendo is smart they won't follow the same route (I hope).

It also announced earlier this week that all Studio Canal content will be wiped off their server, including stuff you've already bought.Fifo wrote: Wed Jul 01, 2026 7:21 pm Today, Sony published a blog post announcing they’re going to end manufacturing physical media for PlayStation.

This, ladies and gentlemen, is what we call the endgame. You will own nothing and you will be happy.
