Why was this uploaded? I uploaded the same exact image yesterday in a different image format. Other than that, this upload is redundant. -Brad

Sorry, I missed your upload. I removed it now since it was compressed and wasn't used on any pages. I'll make sure to check that better next time when uploading. Also, please remember to sign your posts by pressing the signature button in the editor. -- 08:15, 28 October 2017 (UTC)
What? Mine was deleted? Because it was compressed? That's a horrible excuse. Mine was uploaded first and had the same image quality. It didn't matter if it was used on any pages. Those are awful petty excuses to delete mine. I didn't have the time to put it on pages and was hoping to rely on fellow RayWiki members to do it. Extremely disappointed with this reasoning behind your decision. - Brad
Seriously? It's not a contest to upload photos. I deleted yours because I would anyway have to delete one of them, and mine was already used in several pages while yours wasn't. As for images quality, no, compressing will always reduce the quality, even though it might not be noticeable. But I really shouldn't have to explain myself here since it's completely irrelevant which upload was kept. And as I stated above, please sign your posts here. Signing it with your name like that is not following the manual of style on the wiki. -- 16:41, 28 October 2017 (UTC)
If it's not a contest, then why did you upload an image that was already there and purposefully deleted mine? Especially with an awful reason that compressing might even be noticeable. You're not giving any good answers at all. These are just petty, contradicting excuses to justify your actions. - Brad
On the topic of JPEG vs PNG, it is true that JPEGs are a lossy format. However, at the same time, I think we need to be careful what type of images we have in PNG format. I was once asked by Humch to switch to using JPEGs when uploading some screenshots from Fiesta Run, the difference in size was rather large (46.4MB to 8MB). With larger images and screenshots, I think JPEG is the better option for the sake of conserving space. While PNGs are better for smaller images. In this case, I think we should tend towards PNG, though I appreciate that this isn't standardised. There's a lot of stuff that we tend to "wing it" on, I'll see if I can contact Humch to make issues like this more clear. -- 22:38, 30 October 2017 (UTC)
When it comes to screenshots I don't think it's as big of a deal if it's slightly compressed to save space. Artworks, like this icon, on the other hand I'm pretty sure should always be uploaded in the highest available quality to preserve the original artwork. As for file size, I'm surprised the screenshots went above 40mb like that! And yeah, if every screenshot is that large, I wouldn't see an issue with compressing them to save space. Although, as I said, I'm pretty sure we should focus on the original quality for all of the artworks.
Edit (before saving): I checked the help page on the matter and it seems like I was on the right track. All non-sprite based game screenshots should in fact be JPEG. All artwork should however be in their original format without any compression. -- 05:28, 31 October 2017 (UTC)
