The Hard Rocks (French: Le Chaos du Cauchemar – The Chaos of Nightmare) is the second level of the Blue Mountains, the third world of the original Rayman game. It always consists of three parts. This level is most known for its sudden traps, mainly linked to gendoors.

Part 1

This part is one of two levels in the game with two exit signs, the other one being the first part of Space Mama's Crater. Heading to the second exit sign will also lead Rayman to a bonus life guarded by picks.

Part 2

Rayman ducking to avoid a pick

On two occasions, Rayman must hurry because an invisible force will kill him if he is not as fast as the screen. This is the second and final part of the game where an invisible force attempts to kill Rayman, the first being the second part of Gong Heights. In the Atari Jaguar version, the invisible force only appears on the first occasion.

Part 3

Rayman caught between two stone men

Although filled with traps causing difficulty to be high, this part contains a lot of hidden bonus lives.

Trivia

  • The level’s name is possibly a reference to “hard rock”, an amplified style of rock music.
