An explosive barrel (official name unknown) is a type of static obstacle appearing only in the race mode in Rayman M, Rayman Arena and Rayman Rush. It is barrel-shaped, slightly taller than the racers, and features Robo-Pirate markings. Touched or shot at, it explodes, stunning the character and slowing them down. The barrels respawn in the same places they have been destroyed.
Description
Rayman M
In Rayman M, explosive barrels can be found in the Forest Jump (3), Zenith Harbour (5), Treasure Ship (8) and Big Bang (27) racing tracks. They appear to be made of dark purple cracked tiles and metallic hoops and have several Robo-Pirate skulls and crosswrenches painted on them. If a barrel stands in a group or row of other explosive objects, the whole group will be destroyed in a chain reaction upon shooting at or touching only one component. The barrels respawn when they are out of range of the player's camera.
Rayman Arena
In the Gamecube and Xbox versions of Rayman Arena, the barrels are featured in Forest Jump (3), Zenith Harbour (3) and Treasure Ship (8). They are a bit rounder than those present in Rayman M, appear to be made of wooden staves and are colored red and yellow (as many other obstacles). These barrels are also marked with another variant of Robo-Pirate skull and shake in place from time to time.
Rayman Rush
The barrels play a slightly more prominent role in Rayman Rush, as they replace some other obstacles and are present in First Ruins (2), Canopy (11), Zenith Harbour (3) and Pipe Maze (9). They are made of dark bluish staves with metallic hoops and feature white Robo-Pirate skulls. Their hitboxes seem to be bigger in comparison to the other versions and it is easier to trigger their detonation. These explosive barrels can also be moved or blown up by using switches. Unlike their other variations, these obstacles respawn a few seconds after explosion, even in the player's sight.
