Rayman Legends Retold is an upcoming 3D/2D action-platformer developed by Ubisoft Montpellier and published by Ubisoft. Officially revealed during a Sony State of Play presentation, the game is scheduled for release on the PlayStation 5 on October 1, 2026. A physical edition is reportedly in development, with rumors suggesting a release on the rumored Nintendo Switch successor alongside the PS5 version. The game reportedly has a retail price of $39.99.

Developed using the Snowdrop engine, the game serves as a bold 3D reimagining of the original Rayman Legends. Brand Art Director Guillaume Arvieu described the game's style as "a bridge between the visual richness and dramatization of Rayman 2 and 3, and the efficiency and clarity of the side-scrolling gameplay of Rayman Legends." According to Brand Director Guillaume Cerda, the development team utilized Snowdrop to deliver a more expressive Rayman experience that fully takes advantage of the PS5's capabilities, while Brand Producer Loïc Gounon stated the game preserves what fans love while expanding Rayman's lore and world logic.

On June 2 several images before the state of play event were leaked. At state of play ubisoft and playstation a reveal trialer has appeared. Several videos of people playing the game were also published.

Story

The game features a revamped narrative focusing on a shadowy new villain—a small, hooded character capable of wielding dark magic—who spreads corruption through the Glade of Dreams. The main cast—Rayman, Globox, Barbara, Grand Minimus, and Murfy—must work together to rescue the Teensies and save their world.

For the first time in franchise history, the characters are fully voiced and participate in fully dynamic, voiced in-game cutscenes where they actively interact with one another. David Gasman returns as the voice of Rayman, while Billy West reprises his role as Murfy.

Betilla appears in the game as a goddess, boasting a highly redesigned, realistic human-like appearance rather than her cartoonish look from Rayman Origins or the original Rayman.

Gameplay

While preserving the core side-scrolling platforming mechanics of the original game, Rayman Legends Retold breaks up 2D perception by tilting the camera, bending the playground, and introducing entirely new 3D gameplay sequences.

Key gameplay features and additions include:

• Dragon flights: Brand-new 3D rail-riding sequences that connect different regions of the worlds. These serve as a modern callback to the giant mosquito and walking shell rides of older entries like Rayman and Rayman 2.
• Reworked hub world: The original tent hub has been completely replaced. Each world now features its own unique, explorable 3D area containing custom visuals, hidden secrets, and small details to discover before entering levels.
• Land of the Livid Dead expansion: An extended version of this realm acts as a new world, containing five brand-new stages designed around a "Power of Light" mechanic.
• Cave of Trials: A new mode offering ongoing free gameplay challenges to test players' skills.
• Four new musical stages: Completely original rhythm-based levels where player actions, such as jumping and punching, must sync to the beat of the soundtrack.
• Updated Kung Foot: The minigame returns with a larger arena, improved controls, customizable rules, and new power-ups, such as the ability to hold onto the ball and pass it to teammates.
• Cooperative multiplayer: Up to four players can participate in couch co-op, allowing players to rescue Teensies together, race for Lums, or knock each other off-path to claim rewards.

Visuals

The game's 3D engine allows for detailed background storytelling. For example, some levels showcase historical depictions of the old Toad King as a slimmer, respected ruler prior to his fall from grace in Legends. Level atmospheres have been heavily enhanced; the Castle in the Clouds level features strong Studio Ghibli vibes, while the Enchanted Forest features a dark, mysterious nighttime aesthetic reminiscent of the Fairy Council from Rayman 3.

Character redesigns

Several characters have received detailed redesigns to complement the 3D shift:

• Rayman: Redesigned with two separate eyes, tied-together hoodie drawstrings, and detailed shoes.
• Globox: Features highly detailed, textured skin.
• Teensies: Updated with visible teeth and larger eyes.
• Barbara: Transitioned into a fully modeled 3D character, representing her biggest visual "glow-up."
• Bubble Dreamer: Wears glasses and has an eccentric, hipster-like appearance. He is also accompanied by a mysterious bird companion.

Soundtrack

The game's soundtrack has been expanded with 55 minutes of brand-new music. Original composer Christophe Héral returned to compose the score alongside Grant Kirkhope, famous for his musical work on the Banjo-Kazooie and Mario + Rabbids series.

Game editions

Rayman Legends Retold is available for pre-order in two distinct editions:

• Standard Edition: Includes the base game.
• Deluxe Edition: Includes the base game, an in-game Art Gallery, the Retro Pack (containing 4 costumes for Rayman, Globox, Barbara, and Grand Minimus), and a digital copy of Rayman Origins: Enhanced Edition (supporting 4K resolution, 60 FPS, controller haptic feedback, and modern quality-of-life upgrades).

Pre-ordering any edition of the game awards the Hoodlum Havoc Pack, which grants two costumes for Rayman and Globox inspired by Rayman 3.
