Minotaurs are enemies which in Rayman Legends, Rayman Adventures, and Rayman: The Board Game’s 5-6 player expansion. In all three games, they appear as the most common enemies in the Olympus Maximus world.
Description
Minotaurs are small anthrophomorphic light-purple creatures with an upset face, short humanoid arms, hoof-like feet and a pair of downwards pointing bull horns. They wear dark-purple pants and a belt with a "H" as a buckle, which might be a reference to Hades. Some of them seem to like cleaning everything, constantly using brushes and rags to keep floors and cages clean.
Minotaurs tend to be static, only performing a small jump and trying to bite the heroes when they get too close to them, akin to the behavior of certain Antitoons in the original Rayman game and Rayman Origins. Not all minotaurs stand in one place, however, as some will charge towards the heroes upon spotting them. Like every enemy in Rayman Legends, they are also defeated with one hit. As a consequence, minotaurs do not represent a major threat individually, but in groups they can become a more challenging obstacle. To compensate for their diminutive size, some minotaurs stand on top of each other to create a wall of minotaurs, preventing the heroes from passing. This wall can be easily destroyed, however, as the weakness of these creatures makes them all fall and bubblize immediately with one hit; sometimes doing this has a consequence, like losing the opportunity to get to a hard-to-reach cage.
These minotaurs appear to be allied to the Giant Minotaur, which more closely resembles the original mythological creature with a more human body and the full head of a bull. There is also a red variation of the minotaur that can breathe fire. According to her description, the princess Sibylla loves to hunt minotaurs.
In Rayman Legends
In Rayman Legends, minotaurs appear in nearly every main level in Olympus Maximus, whether in the foreground or as a background element. In the latter case, the player can use the touchscreen in the Wii U, PlayStation Vita, and Nintendo Switch versions of the game to make Murfy slap the minotaurs and gain a few Lums from them. The only levels from that world in which they are absent are A Cloud of Darkness! and the two princess rescue levels.
