Red Henchman 800

Next time you're taking screenshots, could you be more careful when it comes to positioning the subject? Your three screenshots of the red Henchman 800 have him standing in front of a red mushroom that makes him hard to see. It's not a big deal, but it would be better if any future screenshots were clearer. —Spiraldoor IconSpiralDoor.png 23:46, 25 February 2012 (CET)

You were right, the background wasn't very clear. I hope the new versions are more decent. —Boomboleros7 14:12, 28 February 2012 (CET)

Educational games

Howdy! Can I ask your help to gather information about Rayman Maternelle and Rayman CP? The English pages need information and no English member of the community seems to own the games. The same thing happens for Rayman Premier Clics, that could have user-taken ingame screenshots. :) Thanks for reading. --Sparkle.gifHarukaSparkle.gif 10:44, 23 October 2012 (CEST)

Hi! Well, of course ! As soon as possible, I will gather informations and screenshots for the articles on Rayman Maternelle and Rayman CP. For Rayman Premiers Clics, do you need some screenshots or do you need some informations too? On the different levels of the activities, the name of the characters or the voice acting for exemple. I can too take screenshots of the end credits if you want. Same question for Rayman Dictées. Can I gather informations and/or screenshots for this game series? —Boomboleros7 19:12, 23 October 2012 (CEST)
Anything you think it is useful information! Concerning Rayman Dictèes and Premiers Clics, try to see what exists in the English pages, and improving if necessary. For educational Rayman games that aren't available in English language, it is essencial that a French native takes care of the informations. I can't do miracles since my French is quite poor. --Sparkle.gifHarukaSparkle.gif 01:28, 24 October 2012 (CEST)

Box art

Howdy! Thanks for the CP and Matternelle articles! (Apparently they are the same game except for different ages) Could I ask you one thing? When uploading box arts, try to upload the original edition picture. This means, the original cover of the game when it was released to the market for the very first time. Can you do that, please? ;) --Sparkle.gifHarukaSparkle.gif 19:38, 22 January 2013 (CET)

Hello! Glad that you like the articles. Soon, I will create articles on the activities of those games on the French wiki. I can translate then in English too, if you think that it can be interesting.
For the box arts, you speak about the Hits Collection boxes, isn't it? Well, I've upload a new version of the boxes of Rayman Collection and Rayman Maternelle. Unfortunately, I can't do the same thing with Rayman CP, as I haven't the box of this game. —Boomboleros7 16:31, 25 January 2013 (CEST)
You aren't forced to own the games to find the original covers, its enough also to Google for good pics of those. ;) And yes, it shouldn't say "Hits Collection" and etcs. --Sparkle.gifHarukaSparkle.gif 21:36, 25 January 2013 (CET)

ISO Sharing

Howdy, Boomboleros! Can I do a question to you? Do you think you can share the ISO copies online of the French educational Rayman games on the English Forums? The English community would be quite pleased to have access to those obscure games. :) --Sparkle.gifHarukaSparkle.gif 22:18, 25 February 2013 (CET)

Howdy! It's a good idea but, unfortunately, I can’t do it. Because, and I will be honest, I am useless in computing. Very useless. Maybe I could do it later, if I improve myself or if I find someone who is able to do those copies. But for now, I find it impossible to do it. Sorry...—Boomboleros7 17:53, 4 March 2013 (CEST)
It isn't difficult to do so. You can download a program named MagicISO, which is capable to rip physical discs and convert them to ISO format. Then these can be uploaded in DropBox or MediaFire. But I don't pressure you. Thanks anyway! --Sparkle.gifHarukaSparkle.gif 18:59, 4 March 2013 (CET)

Manuals

Hey Boomboleros, I've noticed you've uploaded some Manuals, I was wondering if you had any plans or idea on how they're meant to be implemented into Articles. I've got some scans of my own for the PS2 UK versions of Rayman Revolution and Rayman 3, I was thinking of using a preview thumbnail that'd link directly to the file. --Sig5 2TEST.png 19:46, 14 April 2014 (CEST)

Hello!
For now, I want to create links on the articles which use a quote from a manual and on the articles of the associate Rayman games. I think it will be useful for the users who want to read the real manuals—Boomboleros7 20:38, 14 April 2014 (CEST)
Ah, so as a reference of sorts then? I see. I decided to give the thumb link idea a shot here, though how well that turned out, I'm not so sure.--Sig5 2TEST.png 21:26, 14 April 2014 (CEST)
I like your thumb idea.
If you search other English manuals, I can upload the RO one and RL one.
You can also go on Rayman Fanpage. I've found some French manuals on it, maybe you'll find the English ones.—Boomboleros7 23:56, 14 April 2014 (CEST)
I'll nose about and see what I find, I've got RO and RL manuals I can scan also, but if you've already got them digitally stored it'd probably be faster if you uploaded them. Many thanks! --Sig5 2TEST.png 23:56, 14 April 2014 (CEST)

Help me

Hi Boomboleros7,

Could you plz block Harpic and Ezrarlkozf from the wiki? They’re annoying me.
Fifo (talk) 19:07, 21 July 2016 (UTC)

Geez, here we go again...
I've block Ezrarlkozf for his edits, but I can't block Harpic, he didn't do anything wrong on the wiki.--Boomboleros7 13:48, 22 July 2016 (UTC)
Yeah, sorry– thanks for the help.

Lava Sanctuary in Rayman Revolution

Hi Boomboleros7,

I noticed recently that you have gone over various pages discussing the Sanctuary of Rock and Lava and Beneath... levels, and changed references to these levels and their names in Rayman Revolution.

It is known that the naming of these levels in Revolution is changed and, furthermore, in reverse order, compared to the original versions of Rayman 2. Namely, the level known as "The Sanctuary of Rock and Lava" is called "Beneath the Lava Sanctuary" in Revolution, and "Beneath the Sanctuary of Rock and Lava" is just called "The Lava Sanctuary" in Revolution.

According to your edits, this is wrong and the level names are, in fact, the other way around (matching the other versions of the game), and only for an unknown reason (as you write), the names displayed in the road signs and the Teensie circles are incorrectly reversed.

Do you have any references explaining that this is indeed the case? That the designers intended to keep the names as in the originals, and that the names as they are written in the game are errors? Because, as it currently stands, your presentation seems problematic to me: it is inconsistent with the way it is written in the game, and is inconsistent with any external links.

The way I see it, the name switch may have really been a mistake, or it may have actually been the intent of the designers. For example, they may have wanted it to be consistent with previous meetings with Guardians, which take place in levels called "Sanctuary of..." and not "Beneath The Sanctuary of..." In fact, in Revolution, the Teensie at the end of the first of the two levels tells Rayman "I will open the sanctuary door for you", which suggests that it was in fact intended for the second level to be named "The Lava Sanctuary", not the first.

This is, of course, not proof, but without any evidence to the contrary to support your point of view, I think it is better to stick to the only official sources we have, which are the names as they appear in the game (in the circle and the road signs). So, unless you have other sources, I would request to revert the changes you made related to this.

Drst (talk) 19:44, 5 June 2017 (UTC)

Hi Drst.
To explain my edits, we must look the dialogs of Rayman Revolution, in the original and the English version.
The only characters who speak about the third sanctuary are Teensies.
Before the visit of the Precipice, the Grand Minimus of the Rainbow Creek says: "Then you must find the entrance of the Lava Sanctuary. The mask is hidden inside.". This line is a correct translation of the original one: "Puis, cherche l'entrée du Sanctuaire de Feu. Le masque est caché à l'intérieur.". The Grand Minimus seems to speak about the level after the Pirate Factory.
After the visit of the Echoing Caves, the Grand Minimus of the Rainbow Creek says: "Go through the Factory and look for the marshes. The Lava Sanctuary is just beyond them.". This line is also a correct translation of the original one: "Traverse l'usine et cherche les marais. Le Sanctuaire de Lave se trouve juste après.". The Grand Minimus clearly talks about the level after the Pirate Factory, where Rayman crosses marshes before he arrives to the temple.
At the end of the level after the Pirate Factory, as you said, a Grand Minimus says: "I will open the sanctuary door for you.". But here, there is a mistranslation, since in the original version, he says: "Je vais t'ouvrir la porte qui mène sous le sanctuaire.". Which means: "I will open the door which leads under/beneath the sanctuary for you.". He clearly says that the level after "the Lava Sanctuary" is "Beneath the Lava Sanctuary".
It's because of those dialogs that I think that the names of the Lava Sanctuary and its undergrounds have been unintentionally inverted on the spiral doors and the signs of the Rainbow Creek. I don't know how, but it wouldn't be the first development error in Rayman Revolution: In the original version, the name of the Echoing Caves changes in a dialog and in every version, Foutch is still called "Guardian of the Sanctuary of Rock and Lava".
To conclude, from a logical point of view, the level after the Pirate Factory can't be intentionally called "Beneath the Lava Sanctuary", since it's not an underground level. I mean, there are marshes and a big temple, and they are clearly on the surface of the Glade.--Boomboleros7 22:59, 5 June 2017 (UTC)
Hi Boomboleros7,
Thank you for your detailed explanation. It was very interesting for me to learn about the dialogue, and especially the inaccuracy in the translation of the key dialogue from French to English. I agree that it serves as strong evidence that originally the names in Revolution were not intended to be swapped (the geography of the Front also supports it).
It is possible that the swapping really was 100% error, or maybe it was a "partisan" design decision for unknown reasons, and whoever chose it failed to clear up all the inconsistencies. We may not know (unless we manage to locate someone who worked on this aspect of Revolution and ask them). But for now, it seems that there is no way to present this information without it being confusing/inconsistent in one way or another. :(
I think that this discussion and your research behind it is actually worth of its own page in the Wiki, and ideally I would prefer to keep the names as they appear in the game, but with links to the page explaining that it was likely in error. However, given the work you already put into the edits, at this point I am fine with leaving it as is, unless other experts want to share their opinions on the matter. :) Drst (talk) 06:51, 6 June 2017 (UTC)
I'm curious, what is the name of the two Lava sanctuary levels in the French version when looking at the spiral doors? Is it still inverted there like the English version, or is it like the original versions? As for which version to keep on the wiki, I believe we should have it how it's shown in the game (inverted), unless it is clear that it's a mistake in which case that has to be clarified somewhere to avoid confusion. I also want to double-check here, was Revolution also originally made in French? I know the original was, but I was thinking that perhaps the PS2 remake wasn't. If that's not the case we can't have the French version as the original since that may be the translation then. --Carrot signature.png 09:43, 6 June 2017 (UTC)
To answer to your questions: In the French version, the names of the two parts of the Lava Sanctuary ("le Sanctuaire de Lave" and "sous le Sanctuaire de Lave") are also inverted on the spiral doors. And the French version is indeed the original, since in L'Histoire de Rayman, it is written that the game was developed in France, by Ubisoft Annecy. Curiously, this information doesn't appear in the game credits, in the manual or on the box art...
For the wiki, I thought it would be more logical to ignore the error, but you're right: we should keep the inversion to respect the game and avoid to confuse the game owners. But we should explain in the level descriptions that there are mistakes on the Rainbow Creek doors and signs, and that the surface of the temple wasn't intentionally called "Beneath the Lava Sanctuary".--Boomboleros7 12:28, 6 June 2017 (UTC)
Boomboleros7, would you like to create a page summarizing all the information you accumulated on this? (I think you are the better person for the job, since you know French and I don't) :)
Since it's a relatively minor point, but the explanation is not short, and since we'll need to include it in both level descriptions, I think it's better to have a dedicated page, than duplicate lots of info in the main articles.
Alternatively, we could have it in the talk page, but which one?
Whatever you think is best, once you compile the source of information I can reference, I can go through all the relevant pages, modify the descriptions and point to your source. Drst (talk) 06:36, 8 June 2017 (UTC)
I think this information could go on the Rayman Revolution page and then have it as the source on the relevant level pages. If so, we should probably change the level names to what they appear as in the game on the wiki as well since we don't have any concrete evidence that the level names are incorrect. Any thoughts? --Carrot signature.png 10:17, 8 June 2017 (UTC)
Yes, I guess it can go as a sub-section of Rayman Revolution#Levels, if you don't think it's too specific/esoteric a point to be on the main page of the game. Drst (talk) 12:14, 8 June 2017 (UTC)
I agree, it would be better to speak about that on the game article.--Boomboleros7 19:47, 8 June 2017 (UTC)

Thanks

Manuals questions

Hello Bomboleros.

I would like to add polish manuals to RayWiki but I have some questions. How much dpi should the scan have? Should I upload it by “Upload file” option or does it need to be sent to someone?

- Nve (talk) 19:35, 28 October 2018 (CET)

Hello Nve.
First off, the manuals which have been already uploaded on the RayWiki come from the disc files of their games.
To upload a manual from disc files or scanned by yourself, you can use the "Upload file" option, since it supports the PDF files.
For the DPI, there is no particular rule, as long as the manual is readable.

L'Histoire de Rayman - Rayman 2 info

Good morning (think other time of the day if applicable) Boomboleros! Let me introduce myself. I'm an editor over at the English Wikipedia's Video Games Project, working on and off around underdeveloped/underpolished articles about retro games. My topic of interest has long been the Rayman series, especially the second game, whose Wikipedia entry is sadly wanting in its coverage of the game's development and reception. For quite a while I've been hearing a rumor that there are vast swathes of unique developer's commentary about each of the Rayman games in the Pix n' Love-edited book L'Histoire de Rayman by Michel Guarné, which seems to be in your possession per the comments over at your user page. I've been seeking material from that book online for several years now to no avail, yet the book is of a vast academic interest to me and so I wonder whether you would consider sharing scans from the book pertaining to Rayman 2 to help in improving the game's Wikipedia coverage. If it is not too much to ask, I'd be really grateful if you also would be willing to look into providing access to the making-of section from the Rayman 2: The Great Escape : Le Guide Officiel guide, as the wiki also points to you as that book's owner. Only asking if these are within your convenience. Looking forward to hearing from you, and many thanks in advance.

Sincerely,

Revanchist (talk) 13:30, 25 August 2021 (CEST)

Hello Revanchist.
It will be my pleasure to help a fan of retro games and Rayman.
However, a few years ago, the Pirate-Community had the chance to welcome the writer of L'Histoire de Rayman himself. We talk a lot about sharing his work on the Internet. His views about scans weren't different from other writers. We respect his choice (and the laws) since we met him, by sharing information from the book on the forum and the wiki only by the ways he approved.
So I'm afraid providing scans will not be possible. However, we may find another way to help, and for this, I invite you to read your private messages on the Pirate-Community forum.
I took the liberty to remove your mail address, which shouldn't be shared on a public web page like this one.
Sincerely, --Boomboleros7 20:10, 25 August 2021 (CEST)
Thanks for your quick reply! I've read your message in my forum inbox, it is a very generous gesture and I'd be grateful to be able to count on your participation. It goes without saying that you are justly within your rights to attend to this matter at your own pace. The only thing that I can humbly add to my inquiry is asking you to consider sharing info about the bibliographic data regarding those information sources (specifically, the page range where the material is located in the guide and L'Histoire de Rayman and info about the Rayman 2 guide's publisher). Hope that this aligns with the matter of respecting the authors' wishes. Looking forward to hearing from you. Thanks in advance.
Revanchist (talk) 22:31, 25 August 2021 (CEST)
Hi Boomboleros7! Just dropping by to ask whether you've decided to proceed with the solution to my request that you've suggested in your forum message. Looking forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely,
Revanchist (talk) 11:29, 2 September 2021 (CEST)
Hi again Revanchist.
I started working on what I said in the private message, that is a translation of Rayman 2 chapter in L'Histoire de Rayman and the making of in the French guide, but then, I remembered something about translation exercice, and it's a good thing I remember it.
Unfortunately, a translation of these pages will be impossible. This exercice is also illegal, as we have been informed by the author and his editor.
For more information, you can refer on this topic: https://raymanpc.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=13006
Sorry for the false hope, --Boomboleros7 17:55, 19 September 2021 (CEST)
